What does it really take to turn creativity into a career?
For Emma Bartik of VOLUPTUARY Ceramics , it isn’t just about talent—it’s about commitment.

In ISSUE NO. 5, we speak with the Sydney-based ceramic artist about what it means to build a life around your practice.
She speaks to the quiet reality of building something meaningful: making time when you don’t have it, trusting the process when results aren’t immediate, and showing up for your practice—especially when no one else will.

Emma Bartik: “Make a commitment to yourself.

If you want to turn your creative practice into a career, you have to be the one who shows up for it. No one else is going to give you permission, carve out the time, or make the decisions for you. That’s all on you.

It’s not just about talent—it’s about consistency and dedication. That means creating time in your day—even when you’re tired, even when you’re unsure—and building towards something bigger, even if you’re not entirely sure what that is yet.

So if you really want it—show up for it. Even before it pays you. Even before anyone else believes it can be a business.
Because the only person standing in your way is probably you.”

Meet Van Esguerra, founder of PIRASO DÉ TELA — the Adelaide-based streetwear label built through consistency, connection, and an unfiltered look at what it really takes to grow a brand.

In ISSUE NO. 5, Van shares the behind-the-scenes of building PIRASO from the ground up—not just through design, but through relationships. He speaks on the value of collaboration, the importance of staying visible, and why knowing how to connect is just as crucial as knowing how to create.

Van Esguerra: “I used to think it was just about the product—like, if the design was strong, everything else would fall into place.

But that’s not how it works. When you’re starting out, especially solo, you realise how important people are—your community becomes everything.

I had to learn how to connect and collaborate—those relationships are everything. From models to photographers, creatives to supporters, it’s the people around you that help push your vision forward.

No one builds a brand alone.”

Meet Leon Kasperski, Co-Founder and Creative Director of ARCHIVES OF ZOBO — an Adelaide-based label defined by intention, structure, and South Australian grit.

With tailoring roots and wide-cropped silhouettes, ZOBO reimagines the modern uniform through texture, tension, and a quiet kind of polish.

In ISSUE NO. 5, Leon opens up about building a brand from the ground up—from navigating manufacturing operations to defining a voice that’s both self-critical and sharply refined.
We dive into topics about failure, community, and the discipline it takes to lead with clarity in a space crowded by noise.

This is a story about pace, perspective, and creative control—and why finding the right people around you might matter more than any product.

Meet Gilat Shani, the Co-Founder and Designer behind Unreal Fur — Melbourne’s pioneering label redefining luxury through cruelty-free innovation.

In ISSUE NO. 5, Gilat opens up about the early conviction that sparked Unreal Fur: to create change from the inside out. What began as a personal protest against cruelty became a global label known for vegan materials, textural creativity, and uncompromising ethics.

We explore her journey from material experimentation to building an international community, and why the future of fashion isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about accountability, transparency, and kindness at every level of production.

Gilat Shani: “Fashion is still far behind on sustainability—and greenwashing doesn’t help. Real change starts with honesty.

If you’re starting a brand, your foundation needs to be solid and your values uncompromising.
Begin with your fabric. Work only with manufacturers who share your ethics.

And remember: true creativity means sustainability and style should never be in conflict.”

Meet Jodee Collett, the founder and designer of KYOTI from Byron Bay, NSW Australia, a label defined by conscious creation, sculptural forms, and spiritual clarity.

In ISSUE NO. 5, Jodee shared the story behind growing KYOTI from a solo creative pursuit to a six-figure brand.
We explore the early challenges, the mindset shifts that kept her grounded, and what it really takes to turn passion into longevity.

Jodee Collett: “No one’s watching over you. Believe in yourself and have discipline.

Water your own garden. Don’t compare. Don’t try to mimic others. Focus on what you have to offer and nurture it. There’s space for everyone—but you have to stay in your own lane to grow.

And don’t be afraid to ask for help. Having a mentor can save you so much time and stress.

You don’t need to figure it all out alone.”

SURREALIUM .world is more than a jewellery label—it’s a lucid gateway into the dreamworld.

Founded by artist and musician Damian Ardestani “XOV” , the Stockholm-based atelier merges ancient craft with avant-garde innovation.

We spoke with Ardestani about channeling altered states into design, building an atelier inside a Nordic fortress, and why holding your vision is the most powerful creative tool of all.

Meet Damian Ardestani , the designer and artist behind high-concept jewellery label, SURREALIUM .world from Stockholm, Sweden.

In ISSUE NO. 5, we speak with Damian about the realities of building a brand from the ground up—from developing an aesthetic language to navigating the emotional and logistical demands of creative work.

SURREALIUM reflects his approach to both art and life: experimental, raw, and deeply personal.

Damian Ardestani:
“You’ve got to be a bit fearless. Building a brand, building anything—it’s all ups and downs. But if the universe feeds you lemons, make fu***ng margaritas.
That’s my mindset.

S**t is going to happen, a lot of it.

Especially if you’re in the art world. So focus on what’s in front of you right now, deal with that, solve those problems, and stop worrying about what happened last week or what might happen next year.”

Meet Yuke Coco Liu, the designer behind Melbourne-based label Busana Studios — a modern study in elegance, where everyday silhouettes meet the structure and spirit of haute couture.

In ISSUE NO. 5, Yuke opens up about the less glamorous but critical side of fashion: building systems, managing deadlines, and protecting your work.
She breaks down why a deep understanding of the industry’s behind-the-scenes systems is crucial for turning creative ambition into lasting success.

Yuke Liu:
“I think the most important thing is to really understand how the industry works; not just the creative side, but the business and operational side too.
That includes everything from manufacturing and sourcing to timelines, logistics, and even pricing structures.
A lot of it isn’t glamorous, but if you don’t know how that world moves, you’ll burn out quickly or end up relying too heavily on others.

Having real industry connections makes a huge difference; people you trust, who can guide you or just share how things are really done.

And honestly, your supply chain matters more than people think.
If your manufacturers, fabric suppliers, or sample makers aren’t aligned with your values or quality standards, the whole thing falls apart.

Build those relationships early, and protect them.”

Meet Andy Le, the founder of .natives — a skincare brand born from UV therapy, soul-searching, and the quiet desire to hold onto a feeling: warmth, confidence, and post-sun glow; all in one bottle.

In ISSUE NO. 5, we dive into Andy’s story—tracing the earliest moments of .natives , the personal healing that inspired it, and the practical challenges of turning a feeling into a product.

He opens up about the pressure to meet industry expectations, the struggle of staying grounded through the noise, and what he’s learned from building a beauty brand from the inside out.

This is a conversation for anyone trying to create something with meaning—where the hardest part isn’t just making it work, but making it feel true.

Andy Le: “In 2020, I got infections that spread from my body to my face. I didn’t look like myself.

It was rough. After eight weeks of UV therapy, my skin healed, and something in my spirit healed too.

That glow — it wasn’t just physical. It was emotional. That’s when the idea clicked.

I wanted to create something that could replicate that exact feeling. That’s what SOL NATIVES is.”

Meet Hoang Phu Bui, founder of LIKIA—a womenswear label shaped by method, material, and meaning.

Built over the course of a year, LIKIA emerged through deliberate preparation: fabric sourcing, manufacturer visits, construction trials—each step guided by a singular focus—to create garments that feel right the moment they’re worn.

In ISSUE NO. 5, Phu Bui shares the depth of research and development that shaped LIKIA’s foundation. It wasn’t just about getting the product right—it was about understanding the deeper emotional resonance behind every design choice.

We dove into the process behind the collection, speaking with Phu Bui about why preparation matters, what emotion looks like in design, and how his intention shaped every stitch.

Hoang Phu Bui: “We didn’t want to just create something quickly.
We wanted to understand what kind of product we really wanted to offer—what kind of emotion we want to give to women, what kind of energy we want to deliver through our designs.

So we did a lot of research and development; we visited manufacturers, worked on the fabrics, and tried out different techniques. All of that was about creating a design that truly speaks to women—something they feel comfortable and confident in.

Because once you launch, people will see it. They will feel it. That first feeling needs to be right.”
