The scene was filmed in one take with multiple cameras to ensure the transformation was captured authentically, which made the actress nervous to get it right, according to Deadline. The characters, who have kidnapped her, believe her hair is a way she stays in contact with a "mother ship" and shave her head to stop the connection.Despite initial nerves, Stone described the experience as "super freeing" . The production team kept her new, short-haired appearance secret for months by requiring her to wear a beanie in public during filming.

As a result, wherever he played he refused to go onstage until the box office had been counted and he had received his share. Once he had piled up enough hits he would arrange for the persons owning the venues on the tour to hire local musicians - musicians who learned his songs from the records - and he would meet them right before going onstage and perform without rehearsal, calling out the songs one by one. Afterwards, he would take his guitar and amp, hop in his car, and leave.
