Pakistan star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is facing potential disciplinary action following recent inappropriate behavior that has upset coaches and board officials.
The incident in question occurred during a practice session at Headingley on the recent England tour, where Afridi’s conduct with batting coach Mohammad Yousuf was inappropriate.
Sources reveal that Afridi’s misconduct was particularly evident when batting coach Mohammad Yousuf criticized him for bowling too many no-balls.
Afridi retorted back while saying, “Let me practice for now, and don’t talk in the middle.” This remark triggered a heated confrontation between the two individuals.
According to reports, the situation escalated to the point where the team management had to intervene. Afridi was subsequently reprimanded for his behavior and made to apologize to Yousuf in front of the entire team. Although the immediate matter was resolved with an apology, the incident has sparked a broader inquiry.
Sources indicate that an investigation is now underway to understand why no immediate disciplinary action was taken against Afridi.
This probe also examines the formation of player lobbies within the team, which are believed to be contributing to a negative atmosphere. Maintaining discipline within the team is the responsibility of the managers, and their handling of the situation is under scrutiny.
Pakistan team‘s internal discord and lack of discipline among players have become significant concerns for team management. PCB plans to provide more opportunities to domestic performers in the home series against Bangladesh.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Instead, the BCCI plans to request the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate their matches to either Sri Lanka or Dubai.
The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan between February and March 2025. However, due to strained political relations, India has not played cricket in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. The last bilateral series between the archrivals was played in India from December 2012 to January 2013, with encounters since then limited to ICC tournaments and Asia Cups.
The decision not to travel to Pakistan has been speculated for some time, and it has now been confirmed by BCCI sources citing political reasons. This development comes as another setback for Pakistan’s efforts to host a major ICC event.
In response to the growing speculation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had proposed that India play all its matches in Lahore. However, the BCCI remains firm in its stance. In May, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla indicated that the Indian team would visit Pakistan for the tournament only if the Central government permitted it.
“In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India tells us to do. We will send our team only when the Government of India permits. So we will go according to the decision of the Indian government,” Shukla told the media.
The ICC will now face the challenge of addressing the BCCI’s request and finding a suitable resolution that accommodates India’s concerns while maintaining the integrity and schedule of the tournament.

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that lets you see text versions of voice messages on Android phones. This feature, already available for iPhones since May, is part of the latest update for the WhatsApp beta app (version 2.24.15.5).
The screenshot below comes from none other than the team at WABetaInfo.

The transcription feature works in several languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi, with more on the way. To use it, you’ll need to download an extra language pack to keep your messages private and secure on your device.
It goes without saying that once the feature comes to Pakistan (there is no clear launch date yet) it may not work as well with voice messages in Urdu. However, since the app supports Hindi, the app may be able to transcribe some of your messages. But in most cases, English transcription will likely be more consistent.
Speaking of the launch date, even though WhatsApp has not announced anything yet, it should not be long before the feature arrives on the retail version of the messenger app since the beta version has it already.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the monsoon season in the country will last from July to September.
Currently, monsoon rains are ongoing in most regions. So far, Pakistan has received 8% more rainfall than usual. Punjab has experienced a 59% increase in rainfall during the first monsoon spell.
However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 1% less rain, Azad Jammu Kashmir 18% less, Balochistan 28% less, Sindh 62% less, and Gilgit-Baltistan 63% less than usual.
Urban, flash, and riverine floods are expected due to these monsoon rains. The risk of diseases is also rising because of stagnant water in flooded areas.

Unveiled at MWC 2024, the Galaxy Ring finally gets its close-up, revealing its full specs, pricing, and availability. While the smallest member of the Galaxy family, the Ring might be the star of the show at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event.
Available in Black, Silver, and Gold, the Galaxy Ring caters to a wide range of styles. Made from a durable grade 5 titanium alloy, it comes in US sizes 5-13 for a comfortable fit. The sleek design features a concave center with sides tapering inwards.

To maintain a stylish look, all the health tracking tech, battery, and charging pins are cleverly hidden beneath a layer of epoxy resin on the inner surface.
Despite its sleek design, the Galaxy Ring is built tough. With an IP68 rating and 10ATM water resistance, you can wear it worry-free in any weather, even while swimming.

Connecting to your phone is simple. The Galaxy Ring uses Bluetooth LE 5.4 and requires a smartphone running Android 11 or later with the Samsung Health app. But here’s the good news: you won’t need additional subscriptions to see your health and fitness data.
The Galaxy Ring even has some built-in smarts. A simple pinch gesture with your thumb and index finger lets you control your Samsung phone, like taking photos or silencing alarms. Plus, it works with Samsung Find My Mobile, so you can use the ring’s built-in LED lights to help locate it if you misplace it.
The Galaxy Ring tracks health stats, including your heart rate with an optical sensor and skin temperature. But where it shines is sleep tracking. The comfortable, low-profile design makes it easy to wear around the clock, letting the Ring monitor your sleep stages, snoring, movement, sleep latency (how long it takes to fall asleep), heart rate, and even your breathing rate.

Battery life varies slightly depending on the ring size. Smaller sizes (5-7) come with 17 mAh batteries and can last up to 6 days on a single charge. Sizes 8-11 bump up to 18 mAh batteries, also lasting 6 days. The largest sizes, 12 and 13, pack a slightly bigger 22.5mAh battery and offer up to 7 days of use.
It comes with a compact charging case, similar to what you’d see with wireless earbuds. This case holds a 361 mAh battery, which can fully recharge the smaller ring sizes (5-7) up to 20 times.

The Samsung Galaxy Ring sets you back $399.

11/07/2024

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Thursday told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue that a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will likely be reached by the end of this month.
Aurangzeb presented a comprehensive briefing on the current economic situation and said all indicators are trending positively, with significant improvements observed in May and June. He also assured that the Pakistani Rupee would remain stable in the coming days.
Budget Taxes And Future Stance Against Non-Filers
Finance Minister said the new budget taxes have so far met with resistance from various sectors, particularly real estate, development, and retail. He did acknowledge that taxation on sub-sectors is a provincial matter and thanked all Chief Ministers for their cooperation.
Aurangzeb reported that all refunds amounting to Rs. 52 billion had been completed by June 2024. He voiced uneasiness on the topic of non-filers, stating that a mere two or three percent tax would not suffice and that legal action would be pursued against them. Despite these challenges, foreign investment is flowing into the stock market, and efforts are underway to reduce interest costs on loans.
Taxes, Pensions, Future of Ministries
The Finance Minister highlighted plans to increase the tax-to-GDP ratio from 9.5 percent to 13 percent. A new contributory pension system for civil pensioners was launched on July 1, with a similar system for the armed forces set to begin on July 1, 2025, Aurangzeb added.
To curb expenses, five ministries have been selected for cost reduction, with recommendations expected by early August before other ministries undergo review.
Aurangzeb expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations with IMF, predicting the finalization of a staff-level agreement within the current month.
He also confirmed that there are currently no restrictions on Letters of Credit (LCs).

Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has expressed serious concern over excessive valuation of immovable properties and directed Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Member Inland Revenue (Policy) to rectify the errors on top priority basis.
An order issued by the FTO on Thursday revealed that the FTO has also directed Member Inland Revenue (Policy) to hold meeting with the stakeholders and the complainant and address their grievances regarding excessive valuation of property and revise the valuation table accordingly if required.
The FTO has directed the Member-IR (Policy) to also dispose of the pending application dated July 10, 2023, on merits after providing opportunity of hearing in accordance with law; and report compliance within 60 days.
The complainant filed complaint against “unrealistic” high valuation mentioned in FBR notification No. 1180(1)12022 dated 27.07.2022 for Agro Farms CDA Scheme-Ill, Sihala,Islamabad. The complainant further stated that he is the lessee of Plot No. 05, Agro farm/poultry and vegetable (P & V) scheme-Ill, Sihala acres/80 Kanals allotted by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad.
In addition, delay in disposing of application of the complainant dated 10.07.2023 pending with the Member (Policy) and his failure to respond to concerns of the complainant amounts to maladministration in terms of section 2(3)(i)(ii) of the FTO Ordinance, 2000.
While disposing of own motion No. 0033/OM/2023, the FTO office gave findings to the effect that no such efforts have been made by the FBR nor have the field formations developed any method which could be followed by the valuation committees within their jurisdiction. Besides, there is no standing anomaly committee formed at any level to address concerns of the stakeholders in case inconsistencies are found or wrong valuation is made by the committees. Besides, the relevant Directorate General couldn’t add any value as it remained non-functional.
It was found that these omissions led to lack of appropriate method of valuation which resulted in inconsistency, inappropriate valuation, undervaluation/overvaluation, and arbitrary exercise of powers. All these lapses constitute maladministration in terms of section 2(3)(i)(b) and (ii) of the FTO Ordinance, 2000. Therefore, corrective measures are required by FBR in the existing valuation table for which the appropriate recommendations were made.
It was recommended that Member (Policy Wing) to develop SOPs containing suitable methods of valuation of immovable property and to constitute standing anomaly committees at appropriate levels to address grievances of the stakeholders on issues of valuation. It was further recommended that the Member (Policy) to hire competent and experienced evaluators for valuation of properties for transparency and accuracy and take steps to formulate schedule for periodic revision of the valuation tables
It was found that serious omissions and commission have been made by the valuation committee in determining the valuation table of the Agro Farms, Sihala Scheme-Ill which failed to address genuine grievances of the complainant and which resulted in inconsistency, inappropriate valuation, undervaluation, overvaluation, and arbitrary exercise of powers. All these lapses constitute maladministration in terms of section 2(3)(i)(b) and (ii) of the FTO Ordinance, 2000.
It is observed that the valuation of property in Agro Farms, Scheme-Ill was substantially enhanced from Rs. 2 million per kanal to Rs. 4 million per kanal through the said SRO. The department stated that valuation was made by the valuation committee after consultation with the property dealers/builders and developers. However, the department did not share composition of the valuation committee and minutes of the committee.
Besides, the department could not share the method of property valuation followed by the department while determining market value of the Agro Farms, Sihala Scheme-Ill property. The DR failed to give any answer regarding the question of valuation method followed by the valuation committee whereby the valuation of the farms, land was increased by 100 percent of the value fixed by the deputy collector/CDA.
It is further noticed that the complainant also filed representation to the Member-IR (Policy), FBR on 10.07.2023 and informed him about excessive valuation. However, no action has been taken by the department nor has the reasons for such high valuation conveyed to the complainant.
