Rules of thumb in HVAC are helpful-but only when used with awareness. They're not a substitute for load calculations, but a guide for early decisions.

Some commonly used HVAC thumb rules (with context):

Cooling Load (Commercial): ~1 ton per 300-400 sq.ft (28-37 m²)

Airflow: ~400 CFM (680 m³/h) per ton of cooling

Fresh Air: 15-20 CFM (25-35 m³/h) per person in offices

Electrical Rooms: Often require 1 ton per 100 sq.ft (with continuous load)

Duct Sizing: Main duct at 1,200-1,500 FPM;

branches at 800-1000 FPM

Use these to budget space, capacity, and routing-then refine with proper software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trace700,Camel or Energy Pro).

🎉 Celebrating 21 Years with Greg Smilek! 🎉
Today we celebrate an incredible milestone – Greg Smilek marks 21 years with Airefrig Australia!

Greg began his journey at our Bayswater branch as a storeman, spending his first few months picking and packing in the warehouse. Since then, he’s grown into a leadership role, now supervising our Enthalpy manufacturing facility next door to the Bayswater office and showroom. Over the years, Greg has shown outstanding loyalty, a strong work ethic, and has fostered a positive, “can-do” culture among his team of five. His commitment and drive have played a key role in our success – including building the very first Enthalpy unit ever sold in Australia!

Reflecting on the journey, Greg shared: “I started out building units in a 20 square metre room, and now we’ve grown into a purpose-built manufacturing facility with a close-knit team of five. The family culture of the business is what I’ve always valued most.”

Thank you, Greg, for your dedication and the lasting impact you've made. Here’s to your 21 years – and the many more ahead! 👏
