Nostos Nest

Nostos Nest Real Life. Real People. Real Workplaces. If you’ve ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels, overworked, or disconnected from your own life, you’re not alone.

Burnout, redundancy, workplace culture, mid-life change, sobriety, mental health, personal growth… 🐨💚

Join the mailing list at Nostosnest.com to get a free life planning guide! I’m a woman in my mid-50s, navigating life’s transformations with the wisdom gained from decades of personal and professional challenges. After years of pushing myself to meet expectations and ignoring the signs of burnout

, I reached a point where I had no choice but to pause and take a hard look at my life. What I discovered was that burnout wasn’t just the result of working too hard – it was a deeper imbalance, rooted in unresolved trauma, perfectionism, and neglecting my emotional needs. Why Nostos Nest? The word nostos comes from ancient Greek and means a return home after a long journey – not just in the physical sense, but emotionally and spiritually. It’s about coming back to yourself, rediscovering who you are after life’s challenges, and finding healing along the way. Paired with nest, which symbolises comfort, warmth, and safety, Nostos Nest is a place of nurturing, reflection, and renewal. For me, this space represents the journey I’ve been on to let go of burnout, find balance, and embrace self-love. My hope is that it becomes a soft place for others to land, too, as they navigate their own paths back “home.”

What I Share Here
I created Nostos Nest to share my experiences, thoughts, and lessons learned, so that anyone facing similar struggles can find comfort, guidance, and hope. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll find on the blog:

Recovering from Burnout - how I began to heal from the inside out

Embracing Midlife Changes - reflections on shifting identity, body, purpose, and priorities

Quitting Drinking - a key part of my recovery, and one of the most transformative things I’ve ever done

Finding Joy After Struggle - learning to let go of perfectionism and make space for real joy

Self-Love and Balance - setting boundaries, cultivating compassion, and creating a life that feels like yours

Workplace Culture and Mental Health - my perspective on how workplaces can better support real people, and how individuals can take care of themselves within work environments that aren’t always built for wellbeing

Why This Might Help You

I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure what comes next. But I’ve also learned that if you slow down and listen to yourself - really listen - healing becomes possible. You don’t need to have it all together. You don’t need to be “perfect” to start again. Wherever you are on your journey, Nostos Nest is a place to breathe, reflect, and begin.

Over the past few months, I’ve been sharing regular blog posts from Nostos Nest, honest reflections on burnout, mental health, and personal growth as I continue my journey.
Writing and sharing my story has always been about one thing: helping others feel seen, understood, and a little less alone.

But in parallel, (and since being made redundant in March) I’ve also been quietly building something that brings together my 35+ years in corporate, my lived experience with burnout and recovery, and my passion for mental health advocacy - a service to help workplaces, especially smaller and mid-sized ones, become more mentally healthy for us all.

This short 1.5 minute video explains exactly where my Mentally Healthy Workplace Maturity Assessment fits - and why it exists. It’s designed to bridge the gap between free government resources and the big-budget programs, making practical workplace wellbeing support accessible to everyone.

You can find out more on my website 👉 https://nostosnest.com
or just send me a message if you’d like to chat.

Because mentally healthy workplaces shouldn’t only be achievable for large organisations - they should be available to everyone. 💚

Burnout doesn’t just happen because of stress. It happens when you start living out of sync with who you are.

That’s what made Avicii’s story so powerful - and heartbreaking. He wasn’t weak, lazy, or fragile. He was misaligned in an industry that rewarded output over wellbeing.

When your inner values and outer reality don’t match, your body eventually forces the reckoning.

The post on my blog this week unpacks what Avicii’s story can teach us about the hidden patterns behind burnout - especially in high-performing, high-pressure environments.

The Avicii story is one we can all learn from.

It’s a powerful reminder that success means nothing if our wellbeing is breaking underneath it.

Behind the music and the fame was someone who was struggling - not because he wasn’t capable or grateful, but because he was exhausted and unheard.

So many of us have been there in smaller ways. Pushing through. Saying yes when we’re running on empty. Believing rest has to be earned.

But burnout doesn’t care how talented or passionate you are - it catches up with anyone whose limits are pushed for too long.

I wrote this blog post to explore those lessons and what Avicii’s story can teach us about authenticity, boundaries, and the cost of constantly striving.

The Avicii mental health and burnout story deeply moved me. It reflects struggles too many of us face, and shares so many lessons for all of us.

✨ If you’ve ever been told you’re “too much,” you’ll know how quickly that can shift into feeling “not enough.”

This is something I’ve experienced myself - and it’s what I explore in my latest post: The Cost of Dimming Your Light - and How I’m Reclaiming Mine.

It’s about the ways we shrink ourselves to fit in, the toll it takes on our wellbeing, and why choosing to shine anyway matters so much.

I realised I’ve been sharing my instagram reels to only my personal profile and not here on the Nostos Nest page.
I'm still figuring out how all this stuff works 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Over the next little while, I’ll be posting a few of the earlier reels that give context to what I’m building and why, so this page has the full journey too.

From today, you’ll also see my weekly Friday Mental Health Check-In here, along with new reels as they come out.

Thanks for being here with me - whether you’ve been following from the start or are just joining. 🤗

✨ Have you ever felt like your light was “too much” for others?
The eye roll. The smirk. The quiet suggestion to tone it down.

Those moments might seem small, but over time they can make you shrink. I know, because I dimmed my own light for years - until I lost it completely.

In my latest post, I share what that cost me, how it fed into burnout, and the work I’ve done to reclaim my spark. It’s about resilience, protecting your positivity, and learning to show up as yourself without apology.

If you’ve ever been told you’re “too much,” I hope this one reminds you that you’re not alone 💛

Transformation doesn’t need to look dramatic to be real.

Sometimes the most important changes aren’t loud or visible. They’re the small, steady choices you make every day - the ones that no one else might even notice.

And you don’t need anyone else’s permission to pursue them.

In my latest post “Eat, Pray, Love Life Lessons” I write about what this taught me in my own journey - especially when it comes to burnout, resilience, and the quiet shifts that add up to real transformation.

Privilege doesn’t cancel out pain.

It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot. Having more options doesn’t make the struggle less real - it just changes how you can respond to it.

Too often we minimise our own struggles by saying “others have it worse.” But comparison doesn’t take away the weight of what you’re carrying. Struggle is still struggle.

In my latest post “Eat, Pray, Love Life Lessons” I talk about what this has taught me in my own life - especially when it comes to burnout, resilience, and finding self-compassion.

Resilience isn’t about never breaking. It’s about how you choose to put yourself back together when life cracks you open. 🌿

That’s why Eat Pray Love continues to resonate for so many of us. It isn’t just a story about travel or romance - it’s about rediscovering who you are when the old version of life no longer fits.

In my latest blog post, I share the Eat Pray Love life lessons that connect so deeply to burnout recovery, midlife reinvention, and the moments where we feel completely undone. Because sometimes the strongest thing you can do isn’t holding it all together - it’s letting go, falling apart, and giving yourself permission to rebuild on your own terms.

💭 If you’ve ever felt like you needed to break in order to grow, this post is for you.

When Eat Pray Love first came out, I rolled my eyes. 🙄
Fifteen years later, I rewatched it - and it hit completely differently.

✨ Age, experience, and burnout changed the way I saw Liz Gilbert’s journey.
✨ I realised transformation doesn’t need to be dramatic to be real.
✨ And self-discovery isn’t selfish - it’s survival.

I shared the lessons I once dismissed, and what they mean to me now.

The strongest friendships are the ones where we know and show the real reasons we’re loved. 💕

Not for what we do. Not for how well we perform. But for who we are when the mask comes off.

That’s the kind of connection worth holding onto.

If our deepest need is to be seen and accepted as we are, then of course we eventually outgrow the spaces where we once felt we had to perform.

Lately I’ve realised it isn’t less connection I want - it’s more authentic connection. The kind where I can show up without the mask.

Maybe you’ve felt it too? The shift away from group dinners, loud spaces, or roles that no longer fit… toward something slower, softer, more real.

💬 Tell me - have you noticed this shift in your own friendships?
