Three days left to donate and support Sara Morawetz's latest endeavor entitled étalon, in which she has embarked on a performative walk along the Meridian arc from Dunkerque to Barcelona, retracing the journey of two French astronomers in 1792 tasked by Napoleon in oder to determine a new universal standard—le mètre-étalon; the metre.

Her journey will span 1,400 km and entail 100 days of walking, surveying and scientific measurement.

"This act of homage, endurance and absurdity is a study of both the length and the lengths taken by science in order to establish a standard and how these standards can be examined and eschewed in the pursuit of art."

You can find out more about the project at www.etalon-walk.com and www.saramorawetz.com

Iván Sikic: 15,000 ft Veiled of Virility of Love
These images were shot during Sikic's research trip in Colquijirca, a remote town 15,000ft above sea level in the Peruvian Andes. The research was for Amor Humano, a work presented in Lima in August, 2017, an encounter with a community confronting femicide through ritual and music.

In Conversation: Daniel Pinchbeck

"If cooperation and symbiosis are evolutionary advances over competition and domination, then such a system should out-perform the old model. Within a few decades or at most a few generations, it should be possible to engineer a global conversion - a planetary reboot of our social operating system."

Sara Morawetz

Sara Morowetz treats her studio like a laboratory. Makes sense when you consider her artistic goal: to break down the long-held distinction between science and art. This aesthetic defines everything from Sara’s creative process to her finished pieces. We recently caught up with the brilliant Aussie…

from A Poem for Record Keepers

You want a location.
But you really mean a telescope.
I hand you the champagne from no occasion.
Should I keep going?
In certain rooms we can only look ahead.
Looking ahead is fun.
When you’re delusional.

Shuttlec**k is shortened to shuttle.
Shuffle the shuttle of the loom.
The c**k part (made of feathers).
Breaks easily, is replaced with plastic.
I find the hardest part.
About talking.
Is the part about talking.
