🚨 Is someone at your company ensuring DVIRs are actually being completed and reviewed?

💡 Lighting violations are often the first thing inspectors catch — and one of the easiest to prevent.

🔧 If a simple bulb issue is making it to roadside, there’s a breakdown somewhere between maintenance and pre-trip.

⚠️ These aren’t complex problems — they’re consistency issues.

✅ Strong fleets don’t overlook the basics — they enforce them.

🚨 International Roadcheck | May 12–14, 2026

Are you ready?

This year’s focus areas:
✔️ Driver Focus (ELDs / Hours of Service): Accuracy, edits, and signs of tampering or falsification
✔️ Vehicle Focus (Cargo Securement): Straps, chains, and load stability
✔️ General Inspections: Brakes, tires, lights, coupling devices, and driver credentials

👉 Level 1 inspections — full driver and vehicle inspections

🔎 Logging reminder:
Ensure you are connected to the ELD at all times and claim any unassigned drive time immediately. Unclaimed time will alert inspectors and can lead to HOS violations.

During Roadcheck, inspectors aren’t just looking — they’re documenting everything.

What gets carriers in trouble isn’t always major issues — it’s:
👉 Inaccurate ELD logs
👉 Poor cargo securement
👉 Missed inspection basics

💬 Compliance takeaway: If it wouldn’t pass on a normal day, it definitely won’t pass during Roadcheck.

🚨 Texas Intrastate Carriers Without ELDs: Paper Logs Still Have Rules

If your intrastate operation qualifies to use paper logs or time records, that does not mean you’re exempt from hours-of-service compliance.

Paper logs must still be accurate, complete, and supported by fuel, dispatch, and payroll records. During inspections and audits, DOT compares everything — and mismatches lead to violations.

💬 Compliance reminder: No ELD doesn’t mean no oversight.

🚨 “It Was Just a Warning”… Or Was It?

This is one of the most misunderstood DOT issues I see.

There are two different systems at play:

🚓 Enforcement Side (State / Officer)
A warning means:
• No citation
• No fine
• No court appearance

The officer is simply saying:
👉 “I’m not ticketing you today.”

📊 FMCSA / CSA Side (Completely Separate System)
FMCSA does not care if it was a ticket or a warning.

If a violation is:
✔️ Observed
✔️ Documented
✔️ Written on a roadside inspection

➡️ It counts against the carrier’s CSA score
➡️ It also goes on the driver’s PSP

That “warning” can:
• Follow a driver for years
• Impact future employment
• Affect insurance, audits, and safety scores
• Hurt the carrier long after the stop is over

📌 Bottom line:
A warning is still a violation in FMCSA’s eyes — for both the driver and the carrier.

This is why:
✅ Pre-trip inspections matter
✅ Logs must be audit-ready
✅ Violations must be reviewed for possible DataQ challenges

Prevention (and correction) is always cheaper than enforcement.

The Small Compliance Mistakes That Get Carriers Shut Down (and How to Prevent Them)

Most carriers don’t get shut down for one big mistake.

They get shut down because small compliance issues pile up over time.

Here are the most common ones I see:

▪️ Missing or incomplete Driver Qualification Files
▪️ Pre-trip and post-trip inspections not logged correctly
▪️ ELD records that “look fine” but fail during review
▪️ Expired medical cards or licenses that aren’t tracked
▪️ Maintenance records that exist—but aren’t audit-ready

DOT enforcement is rarely about intent. It’s about documentation, consistency, and proof.

Bottom Line: Prevention is always cheaper than enforcement.

🛠️ Is your truck road-ready — and compliant?

Maintenance isn’t just about avoiding breakdowns…
It’s about protecting your wallet, your drivers, and your authority.

Too many fleets get hit with DOT violations for:
🚫 Missing annual inspections
🚫 Incomplete maintenance files
🚫 Skipped repairs after defects

Don’t let a missing record cost you thousands.
✅ Stay organized
✅ Schedule preventive maintenance
✅ Keep every inspection documented

I just dropped a new blog breaking it all down — simple, clear, and straight from Your DOT Compliance Gal.

🚨 DRIVER TIP: PERSONAL CONVEYANCE = OFF DUTY, NOT OFF THE HOOK

Personal Conveyance (PC) is one of the most misunderstood areas of Hours-of-Service.
If it’s not truly personal, it can cause violations that hurt both you and your company.

✅ Allowed:
• Driving from a shipper/receiver to the nearest safe parking
• Going to get food, laundry, or a hotel
• Moving within a lot for personal reasons

❌ Not Allowed:
• Driving to your next load or dispatch
• Repositioning for company business
• Going to maintenance

When you select “Personal Conveyance,” always note your reason in the log — for example “going to eat” or “moving to safe parking.”
Leaving it blank or just typing “personal” isn’t enough.

👉 Keep PC use reasonable, switch back to Driving when done, and protect your record.
Remember: Personal Conveyance is a privilege — not a loophole.

🚛 Did you know?
A CDL driver’s address must match what’s on their driver’s license — and it’s not just a good idea, it’s the law.

Under 49 CFR §383.31, drivers have 30 days to update their license after moving.
And carriers? You’re responsible for keeping current, accurate addresses in your Driver Qualification Files under §391.21 and §391.25.

✅ Best practice: Verify every driver’s address during onboarding and annual MVR checks.
A small mismatch today can become a compliance headache tomorrow.

💡 Stay proactive — and compliant.
