FORGO on low waste routine | Sustainable alternative to liquid soap

FORGO is a small team based in Stockhold with the goal to to create simple solutions for complicated problems. One of these solutions is developing the first powder to liquid hand wash in plastic free refill packaging. Imagine a low waste, low emissions, low toxin skin/body/hair care routine in the form of plastic-free paper satchels. In summary, every refill is a plastic bottle never made and 85% fewer emissions than a new bottle of soap. By making the simple switch to a powder solution, FORGO cuts out single-use plastic altogether and dramatically reduces the environmental impact of shipping personal care products. One sachet contains approximately twelve grams of powder, enough to make a full bottle of foaming hand wash with 250ml of hot tap water.

Every aspect of the powder has been carefully considered; the fragrances, for example, are derived from recycled materials such as citrus peels and lumber scrap. FORGO select ingredients based on their benefits and impact on our body and planet. Their recipes are based on simplicity, using fewer than ten essential ingredients to cleanse and nourish the skin. Each ingredient is vetted to be of little to no toxin to our environment when washed down the drain. To drastically cut environmental impact, FORGO use farm leftovers over food stock, and fast growth crops over exotic fruits. The team of FORGO are in the process of verifying the origin of their raw materials, a step which brings them one step closer to their goal of being a fully traceable supply chain by 2023.

If you would like to paint a picture of the future where everyday necessities cause little to no harm to people and the planet, discover FORGO via the link in our bio.

Kuriēto Tableware | The celebration of design, craft and heritage

Kuriēto is a celebration of design, craft and heritage, with a nod to contemporary and Scandinavian influence. Each piece has been handcrafted with painstaking attention to detail and profound respect for techniques and traditions passed down through generations. After working closely with the world’s leading restaurants and chefs, including some of world’s best-known culinary institutions, Kuriēto has curated a range of truly unique ceramic and glass tableware.

Each Kuriēto piece is unique in character, weather for it’s texture, colour and form, the piece is designed to make food sing. In their restrained beauty, the vessels do not speak louder than the food, it is the stage, not the star.

Kuriēto has been fortunate and privileged to forge strong relationships with artisans across Japan working with ceramic and glass. From city to city, region to region, the tools and techniques vary, producing pieces unique to individual artisans and families. For most, their methodology is a closely guarded secret. And as true artists, their wares are available only through few and trusted sources. These are connections with a deep appreciation for design, and unfaltering commitment to impeccable quality led to Kuriēto’s inimitable range.

“Our pieces are the stage on which the theatre of dining unfolds in the world’s finest restaurants”

Rollable OLED display and soundbar | The perfect combination of discreet and memorable

The LG Display team has launched a competition with the aim to design a new product to enhance usability and offer a new experience. One notable project from the competition is Totem, a rollable OLED display and soundbar by Tokyo-based team Studio BooBoon. The studio is a multi-disciplinary design firm founded by Korean designer Jisu Yun and British designer Richard Bone. The firm takes its name after the Korean word Booboon (부분) which means a detail/part of something. The team draws inspiration from these small details that shape our everyday routine to develop creative solutions that can further enrich the users’ life. They are also influenced by their varied experiences and cultural backgrounds.

Totem by Studio Booboon is developed as a characterful product with sleek, minimalist aesthetics. Both discreet and memorable, Totem utilises OLEDs rollable technology to seamlessly blend into the users home. Standing on a stable foot, the OLED display can be adjusted to various heights and angles, as well as being rolled out, allowing for multiple configurations and screen formats. Once the display is rolled out in a vertical position, the Totem further transforms into a functioning speaker. Totem is created to fit into any residential interior setting and is available in a variety of pastel hues, including white, charcoal, salmon pink, and blue-grey.

Uma Wang | Defined as the result of emotions and impressions

Chinese fashion designer Uma Wang is well-renowned for her contemporary draped designs and innovative pairing of textured fabrics. Since the launch of her eponymous label in 2005, Wang has showcased catwalk collections at London, Paris and Milan fashion weeks and is stocked in over 100 retail stores around the world. Wang started the brand with a bang, launching six collections a year. With such a large portfolio of garments, Uma Wang quickly gained global traction and and increased sales by 30 to 50 percent with each year, resulting in the exquisite tailoring and timelessly sophisticated fashion house it is today.

The Uma Wang brand can be defined as the result of emotions, impressions, and the “journey of feelings discovered whilst travelling and meeting new people”. A continuous research in transforming materials and images into precious fabrics and shapes brings the designer on a constant travel around the world, where different cultures and fascinating stories are the best inspiration for the collections. She has gleaned inspiration from Jim Jarmusch’s vampire romance, “Only Lovers Left Alive” (2013), Frida Kahlo’s depictions of her fragile life, and Pompeii’s intricate and beautiful ruins. Her signature technique fuses opposing fabrics whilst following a common colour pallete, the result a balance of sophistication and timeless design.

Coiled, Knotted and Woven Vessels | Aesthetic at the expense of it’s usability
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Caro Pattle is a Naarm/Melbourne based creative whose current body of work focuses on coiled, knotted and woven vessels using traditional coil basketry methods. Each piece completely unique, the forms are inspired by domestic antiques, a play on traditional form mixed with modern materiality. Pattle’s vessels reference ‘Amphorae’, a two-handled vase commonly found in antiquities that were used for storing milk, wine, or olives.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While the original ‘Amphorae’ were often ceramic, the materiality of these velvet vessels honour utilitarian object at the expense of its usability. Centred on material culture, Pattle questions how everyday objects may be the only signifier by which our lives can be decrypted after we are gone. As future artefacts, these vessels aim to game the system by simulating a functional object in a form encoded with joy and humour. In this way, the vessels present a divergent material culture, playfully functional whilst highly decorative and a sweet combination of past and present binaries to create encrypted missives to the future.

Gallerysmith to now represent Gosia Wlodarczak | Interpretation of surroundings through the language of drawing
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Acclaimed Melbourne art gallery, Gallerysmith has announced an intriguing new artist representation, Gosia Wlodarczak, a Polish-born visual and performance artist who interprets her immediate surroundings through the language of drawing. Wlodarczak’s practice is cross-disciplinary, extending toward performance, installation, sound, photography and moving collage; she refers to it as trans-disciplinary drawing. Her works form rich linear tapestries that archive the artist’s fleeting perceptions. Tracing and re-tracing, she gives permanence to the immediate moment, creating vast tapestries of lines and marks in the process.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wlodarczak’s performance work, which often occurs over many days, has been staged in countless cities across four continents. She has been curated into two international art biennales as well as the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery for New South Wales, Art Gallery of South Australia, Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, Museum of Contemporary Art along with a host of University and Regional collections, plus a number of international public and corporate collections.

Welcoming ELE to the progressive Sydney culinary scene | An entirely new, immersive experience that engages each of the senses
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Star Sydney is set to open a new dining concept, ELE by Federico Zanellato and Karl Firla which is set to open to the public today, April 6. Conceptualised and lead by head chefs Federico (Lumi Bar & Dining) and Karl (Oscillate Wildly, Est, Marque). The new restaurant will take over the famed Momofuku Seiobo location at The Star, which occupied the space for the past nine years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Inspired by the elements – earth, fire, air, water – ELE reimagines dining into an entirely new, immersive experience that engages each of the senses. Guests are said to be transported into three distinct drinking and dining spaces, the bar, dining room and the chef’s table. Each experience is carefully choreographed by chefs Zanellato and Firla to create an atmosphere that feels akin to the season outside.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The progressive menu heroes Australian ingredients and producers in technique-driven dishes, and is paired with compelling visual and sound experiences that tantalise the senses, encouraging diners to switch off from the world, and immerse themselves in the moment. Offering a moving feast, guests will be taken on a culinary and sensory journey as the meal progresses, with a mix of curtains, projections and art installations separating each space that will seat 15 to 20 diners.

CAN Studio's Liquid Geology | Tables with legs made from recycled car tyres
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Liquid Geology is a collection of tables by UK design studio CAN, a experimental research into innovative material use in unexpected contexts. The series features a dining, coffee and side table characterised by chunky rubber-coated bases and slimline, steel enamel tops. The steel is hand-cut and lightly bent to form a soft lip around the edge. The tabletops are coated with rich blue, green or orange enamel and fired in a kiln at 820 degrees celsius, before being hand splattered in a contrasting tone and re-fired.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The rough, craggy bases are coated in ‘rubber rock’, a unique material composition of recycled rubber chips and resin developed by CAN whilst researching alternative material uses in furniture production. Each base, which varies in size and form, is hand cast and coated in deep gloss paint to enhance the texture.
Liquid Geology explores the idea of contrast through scale, texture and materiality. The collection was inspired by rugged coastal scenery, underwater deep-sea landscapes and Claude Monet’s 1880’s paintings of sunrise and sunset on the River Thames. CAN drew on the rich detailing and colouring of the impressionists’ work alongside the practices’ own ongoing research into geographic contexts to arrive at furniture with an otherworldly feel. The tabletops offer a reflective, lightly undulating surface like that of a lake which appears to float on rocky underwater outcrops, resulting in a collection of sculpture-like furniture designed to intrigue.

LOEWE X GENTA ISHIZUKA | Necklaces with a dense complexity and cosmos-like continuity
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kyoto-based urushi lacquer artist Genta Ishizuka is best known for his works that deal with “what is in between and around the membrane”. Japanese lacquer, or urushi, is a transformative and highly prized material that has been refined for over 7000 years. Cherished for its infinite versatility, urushi is a distinctive art form that has spread across all facets of Japanese culture from the tea ceremony to modern abstract sculpture. The varnish is sourced from an East Asian lacquer tree that is commonly applied to wood, paper or bamboo and was formerly used for its antibacterial properties of dining utensils, bowls and plates. Now, Ishizuka is using the material with an experimental view that sees it positioned within the contemporary art landscape. He is digging deep into historical pasts, whilst still modernising the craft.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Genta Ishizuka first came into contact with Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson during LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize in 2019 where Ishizuka won with his work Surface Tactility #11. The work presented a garnet-burgundy coloured form that revealed a dense complexity and cosmos-like continuity both transfixing and illuminating. His polished red sculpture set a striking contrast against the Noguchi-designed indoor stone garden in Tokyo where the brand’s annual exhibition was held. The artwork sat at a metre in height, its impressive form securing first prize.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Three years later, Craft Prize winner Genta Ishizuka’s work has been spotted during the LOEWE Fall Winter 2022 fashion show in the form of two enchanting necklaces. The fashion house has not revealed if the necklaces will be available in stores, but we are very much waiting idly on the sideline.

Bad Marlon Design Studio | Dog homes even humans will envy
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From South Korea-based design studio Bad Marlon comes a series of minimalist, design-forward pet houses and beds even humans will envy. Bad Marlon believe the most ideal way to express the essence of an object is simplicity. They achieve this by reducing unnecessary details throughout the design development and by simplifying the production process.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The studio’s collection includes playful products made from materials such as soft cotton, antibacterial microfiber fabric cushions and tiny angular plywood houses. In a statement about the inspiration behind the designs, the team says: “People desire to have authentic communication and therefore, we need a comfortable environment that fosters a deeper connection between pets and people.”

Omega x Swatch launch the $380 'MoonSwatch' | A watch that will have you reaching for the stars
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Two iconic names in watchmaking, Swatch and OMEGA have collaborated for a positively out-of-this-world series of eleven BIOCERAMIC watches inspired by planetary bodies. The MoonSwatch is a new design inspired by the Omega Speedmaster MoonWatch, which was first released in 1965. When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface in 1969, this Speedmaster model became the first watch ever worn on the moon. In fact, it has since become the watch that has served on the most lunar missions. And now, it has been redesigned with an added pop of contemporary colour and most significantly, a reasonable price point of 380 Australian dollars.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Made from BIOCERAMIC, a blend of ceramic and castor oil, the watch is an example of how far once “exotic” materials have improved in quality and ultimately allowed the product to reduce in price. The collection features a new and refreshing colour palette with all hours, minutes, chronograph seconds hands and hour markers sport superluminova for a utopian glow in the dark effect.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At its heart, the new OMEGA x Swatch Speedmaster BIOCERAMIC MoonSwatch collection is a bold play at one of the most iconic timepieces released by the Swiss legend that we believe will have you reaching for the stars.

Sophie Bille Brahe | Jewellery with an avant-garde fascination for the unexplained
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Danish jewellery house Sophie Bille Brahe was founded in 2011 with a debut collection featuring her now highly acclaimed earring Croissant de Lune, a crescent of diamonds wrapped in a semicircle that hugs the ear. The particular design received so much recognition that Sophie has recreated the earring in various sizes and versions over the years. Fusing Scandinavian heritage design with an avant-garde fascination for the unexplained, Sophie Bille Brahe’s well deserved cult following has paved the way for future jewellery design.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
SBB pieces are unashamedly grand and lavish, but never without a “tiny clash”, a small yet defined contemporary twist. Sophie often references her fascination with the night sky in her jewellery making, a interest passed down through generations, beginning with her ancestor, the progressive astronomer Tycho Brahe. “I want my jewellery to tell stories. I don’t want it to be status symbols.” Sophie Bille Brahe brings emotion back to jewellery. The language of the brand lies in proportion and shape, jewellery that means something, to last.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sophie and her team work from an office and showroom in central Copenhagen. Expect diamond-dotted ear cuffs and delicate stacking rings that look beautiful worn alone or together. You can alternatively discover her full jewellery collection online via the link in our bio.

Mario Tsai Studio | Challenging the purpose of traditional lighting
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mario Tsai Studio is a research-based design studio that prides itself on innovative thinking to produce sustainable designs. Unconstrained by conventional methods, their use of rigorous logic coupled with a fluid sense of artistry presents ground-breaking designs.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A reoccurring fascination for Mario Tsai Studio is the constant innovation and diversity of lighting. At the beginning of 2019, the studio began to focus on the research of thin line 360° light sources, and conducted several rounds of testing and verification on the luminescence and energy consumption of optical fibre, LED, EL and COB. A new LED linear light source was selected and its circuit structure was innovated, the overall research of Electricity Lighting was completed in early 2020.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The collection Electricity Lighting consists of glass panels, metal frames and light strips, which are all exposed, resembling a miniature high-class building. The studio hopes to convey the liquidity of running electricity flow through its delicate beam, which is the origin of the name Electricity Lighting.

Eleanor Lakelin’s Sculptural Wood Vessels | An invitation to touch and reflect
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A connection to the past is profound in Eleanor Lakelin’s sculptural vessels; her fascination with wood and its history of growth and struggle, centuries beyond our own is forever present in her practice. Engaging in sustainable practices, Eleanor works exclusively with British-grown trees that have been felled due to decay. For example, in early 2014, a great cedar tree planted at Kingston Lacy by the Duke of Wellington in 1827 had to be felled, in response, the National Trust commissioned Lakelin to create a collection of vessels crafted from the cedar tree.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lakelin’s deep knowledge and passionate interest in the natural properties of wood result in forms that seem true to the spirit of the material and which encourage us to look at the complexities of nature with a new perspective. Her work is rooted in the rhythm of growth, the eroding power of the elements, and the passing of time.

Alterfact's 3D Printed Ceramics | Ceramics that defy gravity itself
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alterfact is an experimental design studio created by Lucile Sciallano and Ben Landau in Melbourne. The two creatives have worked side by side in tandem since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. This creative partnership later turned into the creation of Alterfact Studio, a space that explores current and future issues and translates them into experiences, installations, and objects.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alterfact specialises in 3D printing with clay mixed with a spoonful of intensely coloured raw pigment as a small batch manufacturing process. They push the boundaries of this traditionally plastic-based medium, and play with its connotations of utilitarianism and gimmickry, as it moves into a feasible reality.

Marmadukes Peanut Butter Powder | A healthy and almost nutty alternative
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Enters Marmadukes, a peanut butter powder born out of the desire to provide Australians with a premium peanut butter alternative made of clean, simple, and nutritious ingredients. The deliciously healthy peanut butter alternative was born on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, a fitting location for a product that encourages people to perform, recover and enjoy a relaxing outdoor lifestyle.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, what is peanut butter powder? Marmadukes uses whole roasted peanuts that have been roasted and pressed in an all-natural oil extracting process producing a deep roasted flavour without the fat content. The result is a low-calorie, high plant-based protein that is far less processed than both protein powders and supermarket peanut butter. Marmadukes offers three equally finger-licking ingredients; Pure Peanuts, Original that consists of pure peanut powder, Manuka honey and Himalayan Pink Sea Salt and Rich Chocolate which has the same ingredients as Original with the added decedance of rich organic cacao powder.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To make this delicious alternative, simply add water to the powder and stir to achieve thick and creamy peanut butter. Alternatively, add the peanut powder directly into smoothies, oatmeal, and baked goods to add a delicious peanut flavour full of protein. If inspiration is what you are after, Marmadukes offers mouth-watering recipes, with a large variety of inspiration from breakfast to afternoon snacks, to dinner meals suited for all types of cuisine preferences.

Erdem Fall 2022 Standouts | A unique sense of degenerated glamour
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Without a doubt, Fall 2022 is Erdem Moralioglu’s darkest and most daringly alluring collection yet. The show takes inspiration from the night-lives of a group of captivating women who embodied Berlin’s progressive cultural spirit in the 1930s.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“It was interesting, that time and period. I liked the idea that it was a club, and maybe the models were on their way out, like ghosts. It’s the end of the night and they’re trailing away”. A smoke-filled black box lit up by chalky pillars of light, featuring a theatrical solo pianist, created a melancholy and opulent cabaret-like setting. Like his choice of venue, Moralioglu’s collection expressed itself through the language of reduction with a hint of bedazzlement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each look was defined by its own unique sense of degenerated glamour: cut-up and sliced jacquard dresses, tattered and distressed silk, lavish black beading dragged along the floor, traditional tailoring invaded by gunmetal studs, fragile transparent fabric invaded by tulle strips and embroidered with tiny pearls.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
