Congratulations to Hoda Afshar for winning the National Photographic Portrait Prize. The winning work, Untitled #01 (from the series Code Black/Riot) 2024, is part of a collaboration with a group of First Nations young people in far north Queensland that questions a system that targets and imprisons them from the age of 10. The project, facilitated by the Cairns based Youth Empowered Towards Independence and Change the Record in Sydney, invited participants to have their portraits taken, using a means of their own choosing to conceal their identities while making a personal statement. ‘Some of them chose flowers or bubbles. Others a flag, mask or face paint. The three girls here chose this gesture,’ Afshar said.

The People’s Choice Award will be announced in October.

Anthony Koletti is accused of assaulting a 73-year-old woman in Vaucluse in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

NSW Police appealed for assistance to identify the image of a man they wanted to speak to and 2GB revealed a member of the public thought it was Anthony Koletti.

Police charged the 43-year-old man with common assault.

He has been granted conditional bail and will appear in court in September.

Melissa Caddick disappeared in November 2020 after stealing millions from investors. Several months later, her foot washed up on a beach.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly condemned comments from British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who said the UK could recognise a Palestinian state as early as September unless Israel takes meaningful steps to end the war in Gaza.

Netanyahu warned that such a move would “reward Hamas’ monstrous terrorism” and “punish its victims.”

His remarks come 663 days after the October 7 attacks, with 50 hostages still believed to be held by the terrorist group Hamas.
