Check out our latest podcast highlights for June! 🌟 We’re showcasing unique stories from Laos, Manx, and Yemen. Tune in here: https://wix.to/sKt2sEN

You couldn't ask for a more eclectic and diverse group of countries than Laos, Yemen and the Isle of Man, both geographically and culturally. Perhaps what they all have is a strong sense of tradition that dates back centuries and in each the tightness of the community and family unit are features.Ot...

Can you help ?

I'm still looking for plenty more nationalities for the podcast, which I have listed below. I have already done 120 nationalities, so if it's not on the list, I'm probably not looking for it, unless it's particularly unusual or rare.

Also looking preferably :

- Came to Tas as an adult ( late teens at least)
- Living in Tasmania , not just a temporary visitor ( e.g student or working holiday maker )

If you know someone who might fit these categories from one od the countries below ( or if you are from one of them yourself), please get in touch at [email protected]

It seems like each shoot we've done recently we see something even more spectacular and wonderful, and today we were very privileged to have Hajare come in to be photographed by Andrew Wilson Photography at the State Library and Archives of Tasmania.
Hajara was born in Afghanistan, and lived in Iran and then Turkey, but her family heritage and culture is from Uzbekistan, and the colourful and elaborate clothing she is wearing here is all Uzbek.
The photos from this shoot will be added to our ongoing display of images and stories from the many different nationalities and cultures represented within Tasmania. I hope seeing these eye-catching images of Hajara will encourage you all to come on down to the Hobart Library (Level 2) to come and check out our exhibition, which will run until at least the end of August.

Another fabulous shoot at the State Library and Archives of Tasmania, this time with Outhay, who was doing a bit of a show and tell about some aspects of the culture and traditions of Laos. Her beautiful outfit really sparkled under the lights ( quite literally), as she taught us a bit about dance, food and clothing in Laos ( and more). These photos just give you a taste of that, to get the full effect, come down and see her photos, and those of the 60+ others we have on display on Level 2 of the Hobart Library ( until August).

And for those who haven't booked a photo session yet - get onto it ! We have plenty of sessions available through July.

It turns out that there are people from the Isle of Man ( also known as Manx) living in Tasmania, and I should have a podcast episode with one of them soon, but here's a little bit about the Manx language, the rare indigenous language of the island that is experiencing something of a revival :

Isle of Man Post Office (Oik Postagh Ellan Vannin) is pleased to encourage popular use of the Manx language by presenting this joyful set of six stamps which...

I just wanted to thank all the Welsh people living in Tasmania who have contacted me in the last week. I could easily do a series on Welsh migrants alone, but I have found someone ( Welsh first language speaker), who I will be doing an interview with imminently and I look forward to talking to him more about his passion for the Welsh language !
Thanks for all the interest.

Another photo shoot today, this time with Jenny, who was born in what is now Slovakia, but came from a Hungarian family. She has had a remarkable life, having arrived in Tasmania in 1970 with her family following the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia.
She's also written several books about her experiences, which are available in the State Library and Archives of Tasmania.
We encourage folks to come along to Level 2 of the Hobart State Library to check out her portraits and story, as well as those of the 60 or so others that Andrew Wilson Photography has captured so far.
