Stoner rock is what happens when mud becomes sentient, steals a stack of amplifiers, and declares war on hygiene. The entire genre sounds like a swamp having a psychotic episode. Riffs don’t glide, they sink, dragging themselves through waist deep mud like they’re trying to escape geological imprisonment. Every chord feels soaked in wet dirt and the smell of a basement carpet that hasn’t seen sunlight since 1993.

It's Volume 98 on The Lo' Sound and we're diving head first in to a giant pool of mud on Edge Radio 99.3FM. with music from bands; Mud Lung, Gallons Of Mud, Mudbath, Neon Mud, Mudfinger, Mud Valley, MinIsTrY of MUDD, The Electric Mud and MUDDY ORCHID to name a few.

Heavy psych and fuzz bands are basically sewer prophets speaking in feedback and amp smoke, while rats are the true patrons of distortion, twitching little gutter saints surviving nuclear winters beneath collapsing cities. Both thrive in filth, darkness, and beautiful decay.

Fuzz riffs crawl through walls like infestations, basslines rot the floorboards, and every blown-out speaker sounds like a thousand teeth chewing through concrete at 3AM.

Rats don’t fear the apocalypse; they soundtrack it. Heavy psych just gives the swarm a pulse.

Join us Saturday night 23rd of May on Edge Radio 99.3FM for 2 hours of rodent filled carnage. Featuring music from: Castle Rat, 45Rats, Cherry Rats, MOON RATS, Like Rats, Ironrat, Rat King, Ratking, Ratpiss & Verminthrone to name a few.

Stoner doom and heavy psych are basically what happens when Vultures discover fuzz pedals, smoke an irresponsible amount of cosmic oregano, and decide the riff should drag on longer than a tax audit in hell. It’s not a genre so much as a controlled collapse of gravity, b**g resin, and vintage Orange amps.

The connection to Vultures is obvious: both circle endlessly over the same rotten carcass until everyone involved starts hallucinating meaning. A stoner band can turn one riff into a 22-minute spiritual hostage situation while the crowd stands there baked out of their minds pretending they’ve unlocked cosmic truth instead of listening to four cryptids tuned to C standard.

Like actual Vultures, the entire scene survives off decay, old riffs, dead genres, broken amplifiers, and the fossilized remains of Black Sabbath worship. The music doesn’t attack you; it just hovers overhead patiently until your brain finally gives up and accepts the riff as its new religion.

Tune this Saturday at 8pm (AEST) for Vol. 96 of the Lo' Sound on Edge Radio 99.3FM.

With bands; Them Crooked Vultures, The Black Vultures Band, Buzzards Of Babylon, Karma Vulture, Atomic Vulture, Vultures of Cult, Vulture Neck, Vultures Of The Void, Stone Vultures & Shroud of Vulture to name a couple.

Arachnids are basically the roadies of Satan’s stoner rock band: too many eyes, too many legs, and absolutely zero interest in personal hygiene. They live buried in fuzz, vibrating through blown-out amps and swampy riffs like tiny eight-legged disciples of distortion.

Every time some desert-rock band records a 14 minute song directly onto cassette tape in a basement, a tarantula somewhere nods approvingly, and eats a smaller insect to celebrate.

This Saturday 9th May we jumping head first into a web of fuzz on Edge Radio 99.3FM from 8pm (AEST). With music from: Spider Island, Spider Goat Canyon, Mirkwood Spiders, CRYSTAL SPIDERS, Jacket of Spiders, Black Widow's Project, Tarantula Head, Weaving Spiders, IRON SPIDER & Spider Kitten to name a few.

Slugs and stoner rock have a similar energy: slow, slimy, and absolutely refusing to hurry for anyone.

A slug takes forty-five minutes to cross a footpath like it’s on a government salary. Stoner rock does the same thing with a guitar riff. By the time the song reaches the chorus, the drummer has aged visibly.

Both are filthy, live close to the ground, and leave a weird trail behind them. One leaves slime on your driveway; the other leaves a guy named Dave insisting the song only starts getting good once you've survived the first six minutes.

Tune in Saturday 25th April for 2 hours of slow moving fury on Edge Radio 99.3FM. With bands: Slug Mammoth, Iron Slug, Motherslug, Slug Rejector, Slug Lord, Ten Ton Slug, Spaceslug, Slugs of Mars, Dungeon Slug, Negative Slug & Slug Salt Lava.

Stoner rock and heavy psych operate on the scientific principle that if you tune low enough, time itself gives up. Somewhere in a smoke-filled rehearsal room, a few bands looked at names like “Black Whatever” or “Electric Something-or-Other” and said, “Cowards!” Thus emerged W**deater, W**dpecker, and W**d Priest, bands whose names sound less like music acts and more like side quests in a wizard’s dispensary.

That’s why 20 April, better known as 4/20 feels like the unofficial grand final for these bands. The correlation is obvious: on 4/20, fans celebrate by listening to songs so fuzzy, slow, and heavy that by the third riff the bassist has legally become part of the tectonic plate beneath the venue.

Listen live, Saturday 18th April at 8pm (Au S.E.T)on Edge Radio 99.3FM with music from: Tumbleweed, W**d Demon, W**dpecker, Dungeon W**d, W**dcraft, W**druid, W**deater, W**dWizard, M W W B & W**dPriest StonerDoom to name a few.

This show promises to be very heavy.

In stoner rock, zombies and the undead fit perfectly because both are filthy, slow, and somehow still shambling around long after everyone assumed they were dead. The fuzz is so thick and nasty it feels like it’s been fermenting in a swamp since 1973.

Bands within these genres have turned that undead energy into something even more grotesque: riffs so greasy and rotten they sound like a zombie trying to unbutton leather pants with three missing fingers while the entire rehearsal room smells like sweat, gasoline, and a cursed microwave burrito.

This Saturday 11th April, Andy & Stu tackle the undead on Edge Radio 99.3FM with a horde of bands including: Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard, Zombie Rodeo, Undead Viking Mafia, Zombie Hunger, We The Undead, Zombie Eater & Rob Zombie to name a few.

Tune in it'll get crazy.

Caravans are just doom metal you can live in: slow, rattling, and barely holding it together, but somehow still cruising. Inside it’s smoke, bad decisions, and a riff that’s been going since 1977.

Sludge fans let them decay, psych fans turn them into moving hallucinations, and stoner heads never quite remember where they parked.

Tune in 4/4/26 Saturday night at 8pm as The Lo' Sound presents Vol. 91, only on Edge Radio 99.3FM. It'll be a massive road trip to Doom town.

Captain Caravan, The Vintage Caravan, Parasol Caravan, Blacktooth Caravan, Purple Caravan, Space Caravan, Us As Caravan, Mammoth Caravan and others.

Wild pigs don’t walk, they lumber with groove. Boars don’t charge, they drop riffs. And razorbacks? They’re basically nature’s own fuzz pedals: loud, dirty, and impossible to ignore.

If rock ’n roll had a spirit animal, it wouldn’t be a lion or a wolf. It’d be a dirt-caked, tusked-up, feedback soaked hog, bashing in the scrub.

Join us on Edge Radio 99.3FM this Saturday night at 8pm for a trip to Swine town. With music by: Pearls Before Swine, Son Of Boar, XII Boar, Cement Pig, Boar, Bloated Pig, Green Hog Band, SKY PIG, Wør Pigs, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs to name a few.
