Please report locusts to Australian Plague Locust Commission via 1800 635 962.

These Migratory Locusts (Locust migratoria) are on the move again between Muttaburra and Aramac.

Last week, Desert Channels' Doug and Pete were out and about near Muttaburra when they spotted another carpet of critters.

Using his athletic abilities, Doug managed to catch one for identification (see the picture in the comments), which we then reported to the Australian Plague Locust Commission (APLC) who confirmed that these were native Migratory Locusts.

So what's the situation?

👉 The APLC told us they’re currently monitoring a "successful breeding" of locusts near Aramac and Muttaburra, with several late-instar stage locust bands spotted crossing local roads.

🦗 Locusts are expected to develop into adults with wings and "start to form swarms" over the next few weeks.

Note: DCQ is not involved in locusts – all reports should be made directly to the Australian Plague Locust Commission via 1800 635 962.

The community of Woombye (Sunshine Coast hinterland) fundraised $3,000 for the Bulloo Shire.

🌟 Mayor Ferguson had the honour of receiving a generous donation from Robyn Smith on behalf of the wonderful community of Woombye today. 🌟

Through dedicated fundraising efforts - including sausage sizzles 🌭 outside St Margaret's Church - the amazing people of Woombye raised an impressive $3,000! 💰👏

Robyn has made the journey to Thargomindah for Music in the Mulga and took the opportunity to personally present the cheque to the Mayor.

💖 A heartfelt thank you to the entire Woombye community for their kindness, generosity and incredible community spirit. 🎉

🙏 A special thank you to St Margaret's Woombye Op Shop, Crangfix, Century 21, 4CP Print, and Woombye's Christmas on the Field - your support is truly appreciated and will make a meaningful difference.
