***Hazard reduction burn: Byles Creek Valley area*** Please stay safe and watch out for displaced wildlife. 🙏🦉❤️🌳

Please be advised that the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), in conjunction with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW, is planning to conduct a hazard reduction burn in Lane Cove National Park, Pennant Hills on Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 March 2025.

The planned burn is in bushland surrounding Pennant Hills Park, Britannia Street and Blackbutt Avenue, bordered by Byles Creek to the south, Kurrajong Street/Mambara Track to the east. Tracks and Trails closed will include Pennant Hills Trail, Day Trail, Byles Creek, Kurrajong and Mambara walking tracks.

Residents should expect increased traffic in the vicinity of the burn and be aware that there will be smoke in the area, so keep doors and windows closed.

Residents should also:
👉 Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
👉 Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
👉 Remove washing from clotheslines
👉 Ensure pets have a protected area
👉 Obey the instructions of traffic controllers and emergency services
👉 Keep away from burns for their own safety
👉Reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and you have asthma or a lung condition

🌥This burn will depend on suitable weather conditions. If weather conditions are unfavourable on the planned days, this notice will remain valid and the burn will be rescheduled for following days.

WOO HOO! Are you a night owl and losing sleep over how to entertain your kids during the April school holidays?
Macquarie University Junior Science/Creative Academy has a great range of programs which might help cure your insomnia.
Michael Bianchino & Georgia Cameron are eggscited to present a full day ‘Book Illustration: Secret Life of Powerful Owls’ program for year 3 to 6 students on Tuesday 15 April.
In conjunction with two talented local artists, Melony Smirniotis & Jo Goodchild, children will create pastel illustrations of Powerful Owls, native wildlife and their habitat.
Claws-crossed, your child's image could be used in Michael & Georgia’s third book to be published later this year, with all book profits to Sydney Wildlife Rescue & BirdLife Australia’s Powerful Owl Project.
This is a special one-off event opportunity with limited spaces, so be ready to book this Tuesday 18 March to avoid disappointment. It’s going to be a HOOT! More information in the comments below. Catch you there! xoxo Mikey 🦉❤🌳🎨
