We want to see more of the people, celebrations and little moments that make our Fleurieu communities what they are.

Partyline is a place for your photos and snippets of community life – birthdays, anniversaries, club celebrations, awards, reunions, achievements, gatherings and those great local moments that deserve to be shared.

You don’t need to write a story.

Long after McLaren Vale's cellar doors close, another workforce takes over.

Microbats weighing little more than a five-cent coin emerge above the vines, hunting insects through the night and playing a largely unseen role in the vineyard ecosystem.

Now a collaboration between growers, scientists, volunteers and technology specialists is helping researchers understand exactly what these tiny nocturnal workers are doing.

A healthier landscape can begin with something as simple as one native plant.

Trees matter, but so do shrubs, grasses, sedges and groundcovers - the layers of vegetation that together provide food and shelter for wildlife and help reconnect fragmented habitat.

Across the Fleurieu, community native plant nurseries in places including Goolwa, Clayton Bay, Yankalilla and Hindmarsh Island are also helping people choose species suited to their own patch.

Three tonnes of tangled commercial fishing netting on one of the Fleurieu's most rugged stretches of coastline was never going to be an easy problem to solve.

But after wildlife and surf photographer Andy Alford discovered the ghost net between Petrel Cove and Kings Beach, a local response quickly gathered momentum.

What followed was three days of difficult work - and a striking example of what can happen when a community decides to get something done.

It started with an off-the-cuff suggestion between two dairy farmers facing a difficult future.

Twenty years later, Fleurieu Milk Company employs 130 people, draws milk from nine Fleurieu farms and has grown from its Myponga base into one of South Australia's most recognised regional brands.

For founders Barry 'Bazz' Clarke and Geoff 'Magpie' Hutchinson, though, the story continually comes back to their people.
