Bowhunting Down Under Magazine With the printing and publishing of the 100th edition, BDU Magazine has now officially ended So hunt hard, shoot straight and enjoy our great outdoors!

Bowhunting Down Under Magazine, Australia's longest running, non association, bi-monthly bowhunting magazine, has officially wound up and ended with Edition #100 - the Mar/Apr 2020 edition. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to and/or advertised in the magazine during our 16 years of publishing to help make our BDU Magazine an Aussie Bowhunters ‘must read’ publication! Whist it might be the end for the magazine, it’s certainly not the end for bowhunting. Editor, Allan Bowman.

The new 2024 Mathews Lift represents a significant jump in bow technology with target bow accuracy, legendary smooth draw cycle, speeds not seen since the old Mathews’s MR Monster bows, yet still as quite as 2023’s incredible Phase 4……..and weighing less than the competitors carbon bows! Combined with the new Mathews Shot Sense it is one of the most formidable bows ever made!
Oh, and as our former editor has shown on a recent hunt, they’re a proven big pig rig!

If ever there was a year to upgrade to a Lift 29.5 or 33 this is the year! Get yours and the new Shot Sense at Urban Archery today. Hurry because stock is limited!

Never ever forget that the ONLY reason you can freely experience wild places like this is because a generation of men and women, who showed a level of bravery and sacrifice beyond anything that you and I will ever know, gave everything to ensure that you could!! Lest We Forget.

With age comes a change in vision acuity, and one of the biggest contributors to an anxious shot or target panic is a poor sight picture. I’ve been trying heaps of different sights over the last 12mths in an effort to sharpen my sight picture quality through the peep and scope. Right now, for my 55yr old eyes, the double up pin Ultraview 3 XL with all its inbuilt lighting options for both the pins and bubble level has hands down come out on top! Coupled with the awesome HHA Tetra Max sight and a return to one eye closed shooting through a 3/8th peep has been a great improvement for me! Give them a try if you’re eyes are not quite what they used to be!!

Through the L scapula, centre punched a rib, took out the bottom of the vertebrae and crashed through the R scapula. No it’s not a huge boar but still, that’s a lot of bone to get through and remain intact! When I 1st started bowhunting 45yrs ago the old timers always had the mantra ‘it’s not how good your gear works on a perfect shot, it’s how good it performs on a poor shot that counts!’ As true today as it was then. In Aust we have access to a wide variety of tough-as-nails shafts and broadheads that will get the job done. In this instance I used a 300 spine FMJ with a CX bulldog nock collar behind a 4 blade 125gn Slick Trick Viper Trick.
