A no-confidence motion in Tasmania's Liberal government has failed to pass.

Labor leader Dean Winter moved the motion on the opening day of parliament, one month on from an election in which neither major party claimed majority.

The motion was voted down 24 to 10, with all crossbench MPs against the motion.

It marks the final note in the Tasmanian election, with Labor defeated, and the Liberal government retaining power in minority.
