🇮🇹✨ ITALY DIDN’T JUST BRING FOOD TO MELBOURNE… IT BROUGHT ITS HERITAGE. 🇮🇹🍝

An unforgettable evening celebrating the Italy National Pavilion at Fine Food Australia 2026 — and the incredible depth, authenticity and innovation behind Made in Italy. ❤️🤌

We visited the Italian National Pavilion at the expo and it was a standout in terms of excellence.

Hosted by Dani Valent, with a fantastic panel featuring Chef Andrea Vignali 🍴, Caterina from , plus Daniel Pasquali, the evening explored the traditions and stories behind Italy’s UNESCO-recognised food heritage. 🇮🇹

From pasta, EVOO and artisan cheeses to w**e, tomatoes, chocolate and baked goods — 23 Italian exhibitors showcased why Italian produce continues to have such a powerful place in Australia’s premium food market. 🍝🫒🧀🍷🍫

A special honour to welcome:

🇮🇹 Chiara Mauri, Consul General of Italy in Melbourne

🔥🍷 Remembering one of the best w**e dinners we’ve been to this year, full stop.

Mr L’s Bar & Restaurant hosted something special - a five-course celebration of 50 vintages from WA icon Alkoomi Wines, and it delivered on every level. Incredible food, outstanding w**es, and a room buzzing with energy, generosity and fun. ✨🥂

✨ MC duties from Kara Monssen - all energy, insight and w**e wisdom.
👏 Sandy and Laura from Alkoomi Wines told the story of 50 years of family w**emaking in Frankland River better than we ever could.

And the Blackbutt? That’s their legendary Cabernet - and yes, it absolutely lived up to the hype. 🍷❤️

MY 妈妈 & YOUR NONNA 🇨🇳❤️🇮🇹 — when Chinese and Italian food traditions collide!

What happens when Mama meets Nonna? One seriously unforgettable dinner. 🔥🍝🥟

I’ve long been a fan of Da Guido La Pasta, but this was something completely different — an incredibly innovative Chinese × Italian fusion feast celebrating the flavours, memories and traditions passed down through generations.

And the food? EPIC. 🤯

🥟 Xiao Long Bao d’anatra all’Amatriciana
🍖 Porchetta brasata alla Hong Shao
🥟 Shao Mai-inspired ravioli with lamb broth
🍝 You Po Tagliolini with beef ragù
🦆 Duck leg with hoisin, orange & duck-neck ravioli
🍄 An extraordinary dessert of white fungus, Chinese porcini, fig & coriander seed

And then there were the w**es! 🍷

Premium Italian w**es alongside Chinese w**es - and I have to admit, while I already knew Italian w**e could be extraordinary, Chinese w**e was the revelation of the night. That Cabernet! 🇨🇳🍷

From Ningxia and Hebei to Campania and Veneto, the pairings made this a fascinating journey through two very different w**e cultures.

But what really made the night special was the generosity - an extraordinary amount of seriously high-quality food and drinks, served around communal tables where strangers quickly became part of the experience.

Known as one of Melbourne’s premier steakhouses, M E A T M A I D E N has gone seriously next level with its limited Dry-Aged Beef Burger - and in our opinion it’s surely one of Melbourne’s best! 🏆

Created by Head Chef Dylan and team, this is definitely NOT your average burger. 🤯👇

🥩 200g dry-aged beef patty combining retired dairy cow, Sher Wagyu brisket & rostbiff cuts
🦴 Basted in bone marrow
🧀 Aged cheddar
🧅 Tempura onions
🥒 Pickles
🤫 Secret sauce

The result? Rich, beefy, deeply savoury and seriously indulgent. 🔥

This is easily one of Melbourne’s best-value high teas, with an incredibly generous spread that delivers just as strongly on the savoury side as it does on the sweet.

The setting is another highlight - an intimate, sophisticated and charming room filled with Greek art and music, with excellent service making the whole experience feel wonderfully special.

Two Greek ladies next to us who had just returned from Greece summed it up perfectly:

🇬🇷 “This is Greece coming to us.”

And that really is the magic of Eleni’s. Traditional Greek flavours, creativity and warmth - yet unmistakably Greek.

Bold Southeast Asian flavours, generous plates, big personality — and a little fire and theatre along the way. 🌶️🔥

Our feast Okra Restaurant took us across Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese & Indonesian cuisine, with some seriously memorable dishes. 🇹🇭🇲🇾🇻🇳🇮🇩

🔥 Thai-Style Flaming Chicken — crispy skin, juicy inside, cooked in w**e and flamed at the table!
🦪 Flaming / Claypot Tangy Oysters — fresh, zesty and with a brilliant touch of theatre
🐑 Lamb on the Bone — homemade curry sauce with eggplant & okra. An absolute standout! 🤤
🫓 Roti — perfect for soaking up that incredible curry sauce

What really impressed us was the combination of generous portions, bold flavours and dishes you don’t find everywhere, all served in a spacious restaurant with plenty of charm.

And there’s a pretty incredible story behind Okra…

👨‍🍳 Head chef Michael Tiu, originally from Malaysia, has been at Okra for well over 20 years. That sort of longevity in Melbourne’s restaurant industry is extraordinary — and his experience shines through.

❤️ Owner Lawrence is clearly passionate about what he has built, while Mien delivered warm, friendly and engaging front-of-house service throughout our visit.

Okra has been part of the Melbourne dining scene for more than two decades — and it’s easy to see why this remains such a beloved local restaurant.
