After 3 months away, I’m finally back and bursting at the seams with new and old gold. From etherial folk, jazz and experimental to cold wave beats, hip hop and breaks, late 80s punk pearlers and so much more.
Plus I shall be joined by the one and only on her Australian tour, ahead of her sold out Naarm show.

Well I can’t believe it, but join me today from 4-7pm on for my final Neon Sunset for the year!

After next week, I’m off to Europe on tour with my band and won’t be back till January, this year has totally melted away. And I can’t tell you how much I’ve appreciated your support and ears on the show for this epic 10th year!!

I’ll be replaying my 2018 chat with the great Martin Phillipps on the show this Friday, and celebrating his tremendous legacy

Sad news came through yesterday that Martin Phillipps, guitarist and frontman of legendary Dunedin band The Chills, has passed away at just 61 years of age.

Annaliese of Neon Sunset spoke to Phillipps back in 2018, when he was over here for a solo tour. They discussed the art of pop music, the evolving nature of rock as a genre, the challenges of mixing moody lyrics with good riffs and how his ongoing battle with depression and illness is linked to his creative process.

Still grinning like an idiot from Neon Sunset’s 10th birthday live to air. I’m so glad the incredible Laura May Grogan was there to capture the vibe and beauty of it all. Eternal thanks to all the RRR staff and Vols who worked to make it happen, Gregor, Blonde Revolver and Stiff Richards for playing. AND all of you who subscribe and support the show!
