📍Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem Land

Huge thank you to local legend Griffo for taking us out for an awesome day on the water, fishing and checking out the local islands. Griffo guaranteed us all a fish and he certainly did not disappoint! Pulling up fish after fish after fish, that’s the type of fishing I (Tiff) can get around! 😂

Chloe is also now HOOKED on fishing! So much so we’ve had to go out and buy her a rod and reel - she was sick of asking for a turn of Dads! 😂

Honestly this one of the BEST days we’ve had on this trip so far! 😊

📍East Arnhem Land

One of our BEST adventures yet! 700km there and back along the infamous Central Arnhem Road, just weeks after reopening from some very big late rain! We were a little apprehensive about what lay ahead…

But what we experienced blew us away! The most amazing creeks and waterfalls to swim in, jungle swings, beautiful beaches, epic fishing, remote islands and the friendliest locals who took us in as their own and showed us what their home town has to offer! 🥰

📍Flora River Nature Park, NT

Down at a boat ramp near Timber Creek one afternoon a local lady told us we should check out her fav campground - Flora River. I jumped on Wikicamps later that arvo and much to my surprise there wasn’t a single point marked!

With only a few pics online and limited information on what the track in was like, we took a gamble and it really paid off!

20km down some of the worst bulldust tracks we’ve driven thus far, we found a completely empty campground. The walking tracks were an overgrown mess, but the waterfalls, the colour of the water and the wildlife was insane! It’s wild and rough around the edges, and everything we love! 😁

And to address the elephant in the room, yes that’s a 92cm barra caught on the banks of the Flora River! An absolute personal best for Cam. He tells me this picture is going “straight to the pool room!!” I reminded him we don’t have a pool room! 🤭

Territory Day aka Cracker Night! 🧨

Two years ago we did a family van trip through the NT which just so happened to be perfectly timed with Territory Day. Celebrated every July 1 in the NT, it’s the only day of the year Australians can legally buy and use fireworks without a permit and set them off. 🧨

We had such a blast we vowed to make sure we were back in the NT for July 1 on our 2025 lap…..and so here we are! 😁 The kids (big kids too) had the best night celebrating in Katherine! 💥

📍Umbrawarra Gorge, NT

This one is a beauty!! Completely slips under the radar but so worth the visit and only 20km off Stuart highway out of Pine Creek (lots of creek crossings early in the dry season though!) We enjoyed the entire campsite and gorge to ourselves! 😱 Always makes it that little bit more special! ☺️

📍The Gibb River Rd - then and now…

Some comparison shots from our Gibb trip in 2020 vs 2025. New car, new van and another child later 😁. If I’m being honest we didn’t enjoy ourselves as much this time around. I think that’s the problem when you visit somewhere more than once - you’re always going to compare it to last time…and last time we were incredibly spoilt with absolutely no crowds due to covid border closures.

A spanner was also thrown in the works just after we hit the track - unseasonal rain heading our way! We had been waiting for the road up to Mitchell Falls/Kalumburu to open but quickly accepted this wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.

So instead we visited some of the stations and free camps we missed last time on the eastern side of the Gibb, caught up with Elnick.Adventures at one of the BEST free camps we’ve stayed at (Hann River), before turning around and hightailing it back to Kununurra to beat the rain. Not before loosing a number plate, and a puncturing a tyre of course! 😅

That’s it for the Kimberley for us. After a month here it’s time to explore top end NT. 😄

📍El Questro

We weren’t sure what to expect here. On face value it’s quite commercialised, with big tour buses rolling through every morning and choppers overhead every hour. We missed it last time we were up this way so it’s always been on the bucket list!

BUT we ended up having an awesome time! Safe to say it actually exceeded our expectations and we do think we’re quite hard to impress 😅

We even managed to score most of the gorges and waterholes all to ourselves! 😱 Definitely add El Questro to your list! Emma Gorge, El Questro Gorge and Zebedee Springs were absolutely AMAZING! 🌴

My first big barra landed! 77cm on the banks of Keep River! A huge thanks to Jed and Kirsten for taking me out for a wicked night fishing. 🎣

📍Keep River National Park, NT

Just past the WA/NT border this little park doesn’t get much attention.

Was a little concerned driving in and seeing most of the park on fire (NT things!!) but the campground was great and we all loved the Goorrandalng walk trail.

A little down time was just what we needed after a crazy few days in Kununurra - cam broke a tooth, we got robbed overnight, punctured a tyre and Cam finally got on to that dream bara…! 🐟 (more on that soon! 😁)

📍Duncan Road - a 450km unsealed backtrack between Kununurra and Halls Creek in the Kimberley.

The adventure out here was WILD! Washouts, tight overgrown tracks, big crocs, countless water crossings and total solitude camping out along the Ord River!

The Gibb River Rd seems to get all the attention out here but Duncan Rd was up there with one of the best tracks we’ve done!
