Sime Nugent (The Wilson Pickers, Sweet Jean) returns with his first new music in nine years. 'The Crow', out now via Cheersquad Records & Tapes, comes from his forthcoming album, the sixth under his own name.

The first taste of Sime's new album is the simmering, bluesy noir of lead single 'The Crow', a song that sways along with a haunted twang and hypnotic atmosphere. Electric guitar digs in with distortion and intent, Hesketh's piano providing a beautiful melodic counterpoint. The rhythm section grounds the song with a solid earthiness as Sime's compelling voice, brimming with character, serenades the listener with the all-too-real tale of a nefarious disruptor.

Listen/buy here https://simenugent.bandcamp.com/track/the-crow

"'The Crow' was written about a would be assassin from another time," explains Sime. "It seemed like an interesting time to release this song. I don't really feel it's my place to wade into those conversations because who needs another person with a microphone? But from an observational point of view, I guess that's what songs can do. They can watch like a Crow."

As Sime's new single once again proves, the strongest through-lines in his music continue to be an enduring engagement with songwriting at its highest level and a truly disarming voice. He brings a level of craftsmanship to everything he does. Sime Nugent travels with an extensive repertoire as a soloist, collaborator, band leader, band member, and songwriter.

Check out Sime Nugent and The Capes as they release 'The Crow' this Saturday 22 March at the Union Hotel Brunswick.
The Capes feature co-producer - Roger Bergodaz on drums (Lost Ragas/Tex Perkins), Steve Hesketh on Hammond Organ and Piano (The Drones/Jet), Zane Lindt on Bass (Mick Thomas) and Shane Reilly on Baritone Electric and Pedal Steel guitars (Lost Ragas/Man in Black/ Beck/ Emma Donovan)
8:30 show with an interval (as opposed to two sets)
Free to enter.

You're right — Benny J Ward Music is truly on fire! His musical versatility shines through with “Nest In Your Head”, showing off his ability to balance his solo work with his multiple band projects and collaborations. With such a varied lineup of musicians and artistic influences, it's no wonder he’s making waves in the Australian and international music scene.

The fact he’s producing his own music, recording and producing others and creating music videos in his own Pink House Studio adds multiple layers to his creative output.

Benny has been rather busy, one could say... Having recently produced and recorded the #1 Indi song for legendary Australian artists James Baker and Dom Mariani "Friday Night Friends" and collaborating on videos with Kim Salmon of The Scientists and Smoked Salmon, it's a wonder he's been able to fit in releasing his own tunes! He has recently formed and eastern states outfit for his solo project, "Benny J and The Psych Ward" (featuring Davey Lane of You Am I, Link Meanie and Matt Cotter of Even). Benny has upcoming shows with Kim Salmon's Smoked Salmon with the Perth outfit Benny J Ward and Thee Teleprompters (featuring Matt Rodrigues and Jose Zaverino).

The new track "Nest In Your Head" highlights the pushing of boundaries with his use of vacuum synthesizers. an exciting direction he's heading in. This kind of experimentation suggests he's not just staying in his comfort zone but actively exploring new sonic landscapes and stylistic changes. Add in the psychedelic visuals on this song and its video, and you are in for an immersive experience, both sonically and visually. It’s an exciting time for Benny, and “Nest In Your Head” definitely seems poised to be a standout track in his ever growing catalogue.

OUT TODAY - HEXHAM HEADS DEBUT EP

"My new favorite band."
Crispian Winsor, Radio City, PBS Melbourne 106.7fm

Melbourne's Hexham Heads offer a fresh take on a classic power pop sound, delivered with heart and soul in all its ragged glory, a heady brew of jangle, fuzz, harmonies and guitar-monies!

Having bonded over a love of loud guitars and hooky pop melodies, Melbourne music stalwarts Van Walker (Swedish Magazines/Livingstone Daisies) & Mic Hubbard (Ella Hooper/Spencer P. Jones) began making demos in the winter of 2024, soon enlisting the talents of friends Brett ‘Wolfie’ Wolfenden (The Pictures/The Casanovas/Wolfmother) on drums and George Carroll Wilson (Pollyman/Bones and Jones) on bass guitar to join in the proceedings, and in one short, action-packed session recorded the four tracks that make up their debut, self-titled EP.

A small but spicy taste of things to come, the EP a testament to the love of garage rock and power pop, enlivened with soulful powerful performances, successfully marrying the jangle of a 12 string with the snarl of a Marshall amplifier. It’s hooks-a-plenty, guitars galore, and an homage to loud, sweaty fun.

"An infectious...stunning recipe of soaring harmonies, exquisite melody and guitar slinging that will have you playing this track over and over and over - it's that good!! Irresistible!! Love this work!!"
⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Radio Carrum

A mere four songs, but for a debut release this EP is a wild ride of myriad musical colours that promise much more to come from a band who defy easy categorisation but offer straight up soul music without pretence.
Get your copy now before they're all gone. Available on limited edition hot pink 7" vinyl, black 7" vinyl and digitally.

"The art of songwriting for me has always been an attempt to cut to the heart of the matter, much like sculpture, carving away the unnecessary. The hardest thing is to be simple. And even harder is to be happy. But the world needs more joy and harmony. I hope Hexham Heads is a group that gets people singing together, if nothing else." Van Walker

Join the band to celebrate the EP's release with their Melbourne March residency at Shotkickers,
