Happy New Year everyone!! (Australia has just clocked over!) ✨ Fireworks - like a metaphor for life—beautiful, intense, fleeting, and unforgettable. ✨
As they lit up the sky here in Brunswick, I couldn’t help but reflect on the year that’s been. 2024 brought incredible highs and heartbreaking lows—a year of creating music, memories, and connections, but also saying goodbye to people I loved deeply, and watching others do the same. 🌌💔
Grief has a strange way of teaching us what truly matters. It’s made me hold tighter to the light, to the moments of joy, and to the people who make this journey worthwhile. 🙏🙏
As we step into 2025, my heart is also with those grieving in war zones and across the world, where loss and hardship are part of daily life. May this year bring a little more peace, hope, and healing to every corner of the globe. 🌍💔
Now, as we step into 2025, I feel ready to embrace new beginnings—with all the hope, creativity, and fire this new chapter promises. Here’s to finding beauty in every moment, no matter how fleeting.

After a long stretch of intense studio focus, it was time to let the waves wash away the stress. Grateful for the perfect natural backdrop to hit pause, reset, and breathe in inspiration—and for my sister . This time of reflection brought contemplation on loss, grief, and empathy for those facing tough situations, but also joy and peace. The ocean’s vastness offers the perfect redirection—a chance to reflect, find inspiration, and breathe in its endlessness. A gentle reminder that we’re all passing through, part of something larger and more enduring, connected yet fleeting. Looking forward to expressing all of this in renewed creativity. Namaste 🌊✨

In loving memory of my beautiful father-in-law and friend, Martin Kluwer, who passed away a couple of days ago. Martin was more than family. He was a mentor and source of endless wisdom. His stories of growing up in wartime Holland, sharing ci******es with the N***s, who showed leniency to a curious kid past curfew always left me in awe. His deep, musical knowledge, and unwavering support of my music is a gift I will cherish forever. Scott and I loved watching Count Basie and the Dutch college swing band with him. Martin nurtured qualities in his children like sensitivity, kindness, honesty, compassion, respect, and equality. I’m so blessed to be with Scott. His legacy will always leave an indelible impression on my heart. I will miss you and love you forever, Julia ###

We have lost a great artist and activist. Vale Sinéad O’Connor.
I remember seeing her live with her all female band in Ireland at the Galway music festival. I was there to sing on the same stage a night later, with my own (mostly female) band. (One of the most memorable gigs of my life).
Sinéad was an incredibly heartfelt and emotional Singer. A powerhouse with both her music and life. She stood up for what she believed in. She fought against child abuse. She advocated human rights. She challenged organised religion and pushed anti-racism efforts. She openly struggled with mental health. She was seeker. And she died too young. Far, far too young. Her passing is a huge loss for both the music industry and humanity.

I love the feeling of getting lost in the music, of exploring new sounds and textures. It's like diving into a sea of creativity. My studio is a space where I can be myself, expressing myself without any boundaries. It's a place of freedom and possibility.

My mother's book, 'Maggie,' published by Hachette, is a true masterpiece. The fact that she accomplished this at 73 is a testament to her artistic spirit and she inspires me everyday. ‘Maggie’ has been named the 'Fiction Pick of the Week' in both The Age and the The Sydney Morning Herald and was also chosen as ‘Notable Book’ in The Australian. It’s been in all the major newspapers - which is amazing, considering there has been no publicity for it. Her writing is a source of inspiration to me as an artist, and her book is a must-read.
