NEW WARPAINT UNVEILED AS VEAL JOINS MONTE MOTORSPORT FOR LATE SEASON SCHEDULE

Official release: Monte Motorsport
October 5, 2022

Jamie Veal will drive the Monte Motorsport W17 in 2023.
The 34 year old Warrnambool superstar has announced a short and sharp late season schedule where he’ll saddle up in the iconic W17 Maxim to run selected shows at Kwinana and Bunbury.

“It’s always fun racing with Luch and the Monte team,” said Veal today, “to be honest we had aimed to do a few more races together this season but my commitments have changed prior to Christmas so our dates in the West are scheduled for later in the season now.”

Veal will saddle up in the spectacular Monte Farms / RPM Race Products / Rumbold Ford / Frig Tech WA / Goldstar Transport / Spudshed Fresh Food Market / Homestyle Salads entry for events on April 1, 7, 8 and 21 in WA.

There are also plans for him to saddle up for Darwin later in 2023.
Veal will be the second driver to wheel the Monte W17 in 2022/2023 with American superstar Tyler “Sunshine” Courtney booked in for WA Speedweek in December-January and the always epic “Classic” week at Avalon, Mount Gambier and Warrnambool.

“It’s going to be a great season,” says Luch Monte, “with Sunshine and Vealy driving for us and Dylan Buswell and Steve Melville (Melv working for the team with Veal) on the spanners we’ll have some real speed.”

The W17 looks spectacular this season with pre-season building of the cars and prep being laid by former Monte Motorsport crew chief Kim “Buzzy” Buswell in the lead up to Sunshine’s first race.

“It means a lot to us to have Buzzy at RPM Race Products getting the cars ready,” Monte explains, “nobody knows our cars better than him and of course I trust him with everything to do with this team. It’s perfect to then hand over the cars to first Dylan with Tyler and later Melv wrenching for Jamie.”

The signing of Jamie Veal to wheel the W17 to round out the season is a huge bonus for Monte Motorsport and West Australian Sprintcar fans in general.

AARON REUTZEL SET FOR ECS APPEARANCES

Texan Aaron Reutzel will again link with Sydney's Saller Motorsport for commitments at Eastern Creek Speedway during the high time of the season.

Reutzel, 32, from Clute, Texas, comes to the Eastern Creek venue on the back of a very successful 2022 American season, highlighted with victory in August's 32nd Knoxville 360 Sprintcar Nationals. He will make five appearances at ECS and will also compete at Brisbane's Archerfield Speedway during January.

His first meeting at ECS will be December 30 and will follow up with January 1, 4, 6 and 7 shows in which fellow countryman Carson Macedo also will race. Reutzel then heads north for January 11, 13 and 14 engagements at Archerfield.

It has been three years since Reutzel last raced for Saller Motorsport but he has kept in regular contact with the team after striking up strong camaraderie following his initial campaign.
Team owner Mark Saller was in Knoxville this year and says Aaron is looking forward to running at Eastern Creek Speedway after watching race footage.

“He said it (ECS) looks very fast and we know Aaron likes to be on the loud pedal and run up high. It's just his desire to win and the spectacle that he puts it all on the line.”
Aaron's visit is backed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD).The organisation will be sending two engines for his Down Under campaign. Over the past 12 months Aaron has been working with TRD in a testing programme and is confident he will have a strong motor package.

Mark says Reutzel's working relationship with the Saller team commenced after we “reached out to Aaron when he won an All Star Championship and we messaged him to see if he was interested in coming to Australia. Aaron did his research and then agreed to join Saller Motorsport three years ago.” A highlight of that first visit was victory in a round of the World Series Sprintcar Championship.

Saller Motorsport will again field two cars this season.
Mark's son Michael in the N56 and the team's N7 car will be driven by Robbie Farr. When Reutzel arrives, Farr will continue with the JPM team in Perth before returning to ECS and Stellar Motorsport in early 2023. As a follow-on from Reutzel's upcoming visit, Saller Motorsport will this season continue its sponsorship with Sydney company, Kings Roller Grills and Shutters (KRGS). “We are delighted to continue our long time sponsorship backing and working relationship with Saller Motorsport,” KRGS company head Phil Blackman said. “We go back a long way and our company has been heavily involved with speedway for a long time. We also sponsor a Wingless Sprint, Midget and we have our own Legend Car.”

WORLD SERIES SPRINTCARS PUT ON ICE UNTIL 2023-24 SPEEDWAY SEASON

The Sprintcar States Series will enter a third year of competition in the 2022-23 speedway season after the Speedway Australia board have moved to postpone World Series Sprintcars another year.

The decision was made after extensive discussions revealed a number of different factors threatened to undermine the success of the series, leaving the board with no option but to revert to the State based calendar.

Speedway Australia Board Chairman, Guy Thompson said the discussions were entered into with the first priority to preserve the value of the WSS brand.

“World Series Sprintcars is our sport’s most widely recognized and respected brand, and the decision was made primarily around protecting that brand, and with the multiple threats facing us in the upcoming season, we couldn’t guarantee that World Series would be able to bring the travelling roadshow that the fans have come to love over the last 35 years.”

“The forecast tyre shortage and the unpredictability of shipping delays were certainly factors, but there’s also the added pressures of rising diesel, flight and accommodation cost to the teams and to Speedway Australia, not to mention the rising concern around Covid’s potential resurgence.”
However, he was quick to reinforce the success of the previous two years of the States Series, encouraging fans to get to their local tracks over the summer that is likely to have a return of American flavour.

“The States Series has had an amazing response in the last two years, particularly from the tracks who were very thankful for Speedway Australia’s support in instigating a calendar that still offered good payouts. But when you consider that this year will likely have the return of some American drivers coming back to Australia, the scene is set for what will be a fantastic return to international competition across the nation.”

Details of the respective States Series calendars will be released after consultation with the Sprintcar Control Council of Australia.
