Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive is ahead of schedule.

🐮 Great Australian Cattle Drive hits the Maranoa

The droving mob for the Great Australian Cattle Drive arrived in Maranoa on Friday, ahead of schedule.

Council's Rural Lands Services is working with drover Bill Prow to ensure smooooth sailing through our region.

As the cattle are travelling along the Warrego Highway, the best place to see them is in town. We anticipate the mob to be arriving in Mitchell this Friday (25th) afternoon where they will be camped for a couple of days before they start the journey to Roma.

👉 Don't miss Tania Kernaghan & Jason Owen together in concert in Mitchell next Wednesday, 30 July, supporting the charity drive.

July 2, 11.06pm. Geoscience Australia reported a 3.1 magnitude earthquake, with depth 10km, at Croppa Creek, near Buckie Rd - about midway between Goondiwindi and Moree. A magnitude 3 quake is considered minor. If you felt the quake, you can register that here: https://earthquakes.ga.gov.au/ and let us know in the comments below. Thanks.

Geoscience Australia monitors, analyses and reports on significant earthquakes to alert the Australian Government, State and Territory Governments and the public about earthquakes in Australia and overseas.

WWII bomber aircraft – nicknamed Hell’n Pelican II – is bound for PNG, and aviation aficionados can track its path, by road, from the Royal Australian Air Force’s Amberley base to the Port of Townsville.

On April 16, 1944, the Douglas A-20 Havoc Bomber, flying with the United States Army 5th Air Force, put down in an isolated jungle tract in New Guinea’s Markham Valley during bad weather.

Its crew took 15 days to evade carnivores and Japanese infantry to reach safety. The completely overgrown aircraft, located in late 1976, was recovered in a 15-day operation in October 1984.

The RAAF completed its restoration 12 years later, by using parts from several other Fifth Air Force A-20Gs. Hell’n Pelican II is now bound for the PNG National Museum and Art Gallery.

From May 31 to June 4, it will travel from Amberley via Westwood (W of Rockhampton) and Charters Towers using the Warrego, Leichhardt, Capricorn, Gregory and Flinders Hwys.
