This is Bigger Than Futsal.

We need to talk about what happened at our Men's Supa Liga game against Furia Futsal Club on Saturday.
It wasn't good.

One of our players was targeted with a vile racial slur by an opponent on the court, aimed directly at his heritage. The match officials did not hear the slur, so no on-court action could be taken at the time, which is why it is crucial that we speak up now.

Let's be clear. This isn’t "sledging" or "mind games." It’s racist garbage meant to cause the deepest hurt possible, and it has absolutely no place in our sport or our community.

We are all incredibly proud of our player and his teammates. They were angry—they had every right to be—but they did not sink to that level. They kept their cool, showed real character, and reminded us what this club is actually about. Their strength spoke louder than any hate could.

After the game, we want to acknowledge that a teammate of the offending player had the decency to come and apologise for what was said and we are grateful to the Supa Liga management for their prompt and serious response. They have opened an official investigation, and we trust their process to uphold the values of our sport and ensure a just outcome for all.

This incident, and the denial that followed, strikes at the very heart of why we exist.

We didn’t start South Perth Alliance just to kick a ball around. We wanted to build a true community, a safe platform where people could thrive. It was about creating a home where people can be themselves, whether they’re our best players, our newest volunteers, our men's teams, or our women's teams. We wanted a place where lifelong friends are made and memories are forged.

For many of our members, we are the first community that welcomes them to Australia. We are a club where it should never matter what your gender is, who you love, where your family comes from, your faith, or the colour of your skin. The only things that should matter are the respect you show and your passion for the game.

That feeling of safety, that sense of home, was attacked on Saturday. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.

We have been working hard for years to keep our sport clean from this garbage. But this incident shows we can't do it alone. It’s on all of us to fix.
The league is investigating, and we expect them to do the right thing.

To Furia Futsal Club, we must be direct. This is not an isolated incident. We have all seen a pattern of troubling behaviour, including a past event at our own venue where a brawl was started by parents and players from your team against another opponent in a junior futsal game. This latest incident, points to a deeply broken culture that must be fixed.

Therefore, let us be perfectly clear. Until we see evidence of genuine accountability and meaningful action to fix the culture within your club, Furia Futsal Club is no longer welcome at our home venue. Furthermore, we have no intention of participating in any future matches against you, in any sport competitions, whatever the repercussions for our season may be. The safety of our players and the integrity of our values are not negotiable.

To every other club out there: talk to your players. Educate them. Set the standard. Don't let hate have a home on the court.

Winning is great, but it’s not what defines us. The respect we have for each other does. We will always stand by our players, and we will always stand for what is right.

Always.
