Two years ago today I was wrapping up a three-week-long adventure of a lifetime that was never meant to be. My original plans for a return to Miami, Florida had changed almost as soon as I landed. My hostel was in terrible shape, the forecast was the worst hurricane season prediction on record for the North Atlantic and half the buildings were being turn down or squatted.
I cancelled my accomodation and took a bus north, with no destination in mind. My first stop was Cape Canaveral, FL where I visited the space centre and witnessed a Falcon 9 launch. I met an an amazing couple from Boston when watching it who I then ran into the next day at the space centre.
My next stop was Jacksonville, FL which was a rather underwhelming city besides one bar, a zoo and a science centre I enjoyed going to. This was when I started to think about where I should finish this journey.
I then continued out of Florida, into Georgia. Savannah was my first stop; a cozy historic town with cobblestone roads and lovely bars. Labor day night was spent with another (much less sober) old couple from out of town, chatting together in a bar.
After Savannah, I finally left the coast and went inland to Atlanta. The city had to offer some facinating places, such as the Coca-Cola museum, the biggest aquarium I had ever been to and some fun bars and clubs where I met lots of cool people.
My final stop on this journey was Nashville, Tennessee. I had arrived there just in time for a three line dance festival before my flight home and enjoyed every minute of it; learning to partner dance, line dance and overall experiencing the American culture I've always wanted to be part of.
I had to fly back to Miami for my connecting return flight to LA, where I enjoyed a brief layover before the hop back to Australia. I still think back at how crazy it was that I was supposed to spend all that time in just one city. Instead, I took myself on an insane adventure without knowing where I'd end up a few days later or who I'd meet along the way.
I can't wait to be back in late-2027 or early-2028 ahead of moving there to pursue an all-American life with my music career. 🇺🇲
