𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 to earlier in the year, when guinea keets were coming out of the paddock left, right and centre.

And as usual, I was out there barefoot, in the mud, in the rain, wearing a white dress 😅

Every time another lot hatched, we’d end up trying to catch the tiny things before they got lost, left behind, eaten by a snake (yes witnessed😔), soaked or just disappeared into the paddock somewhere. They are certainly harder to catch than you would think!

We did try leaving them with their parents and letting them do their thing, but most of them would vanish within a few days.

Four keets, out of probably about 30, have actually made it and are still out there with their parents.

The ones we collected were all reunited later and are now thriving with their extended guinea family.

Current headcount is… well.

𝗝𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘆 + 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗱𝗲

Jeff and Gerty’s birthday is coming up, so a little appreciation post for the two goats that started all of this.

They spent our very first night at Wakana Ridge with us, before we’d even named the place.

Our first goats. Our 𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙜𝙤𝙖𝙩𝙨.

Because then you realise goats are hilarious. And weird. And affectionate. And annoying. And clever. And impossible.

Then somehow there are more goats.

Then baby goats. Goat-proof fences. A goat friend for that other goat you got. And a whole bloody goat situation.

So really, this is their fault.

Happy Birthday to Gertron and Jeffro 😂 🐐 We love your fluffy butts!

We now have some beautiful rear boundary fencing, which separates our grazing and browsing stock from the waterways and springs (more on that soon!)

And here we are putting it to use, doing our usual afternoon goat shuffle from the new bottom paddock to the top so they’ve got shelter for the night.

I lead the way, while Jesse brings up the rear with the emergency feed bucket for wild-goat control. 🤣

And apparently I say “COME ON” approximately four thousand times.

So. I’ve got a challenge for you.

(No horses. Nothing against horses, just my ability to draw them. 😂)
