Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of ANAS and Director General of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, was interviewed by Ses TV.

During the broadcast dedicated to “The Global Artificial Intelligence Race and Azerbaijan,” Academician Rasim Alguliyev reviewed the 55-year developmental journey of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education. He emphasized the significance of the strategic measures implemented by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of digital technologies in our country.
Academician Rasim Alguliyev noted that the Institute’s current key priorities include providing scientific support for the ongoing digitalization processes in the country, strengthening cybersecurity capabilities, and training highly qualified specialists in these fields.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which reflects humanity's technological development trajectory and the essence of the to an information society, is celebrated internationally every year on May 17.
Associate Professor Rashid Alakbarov, PhD in Technical Sciences and Executive Director of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, was interviewed by the "Khalg gazeti" regarding the mission and objectives of this international day, while highlighting Azerbaijan's current standing in the field. He noted:
– In the modern era, this day also serves as a strategic discussion platform where the future directions of the global information environment are shaped. Each year, the International Telecommunication Union determines a theme that reflects contemporary global challenges. He noted that in recent years, priorities such as digital inclusivity, sustainable development, and the adaptation of the elderly to digital technologies have held a special place in this context. The theme specified for 2026, “Digital lifelines: Strengthening resilience in a connected world,” brings the strategic importance of information infrastructure and reliability to the forefront for modern society. This approach emphasizes the vital role of the internet, satellite communications, submarine cable systems, and other digital communication networks in terms of global security, economic stability, and social well-being.

The first internet, the first website, and a 55-year history: The Institute of Information Technology

Discussions were held regarding the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education. The institution's historical trajectory and its scientific achievements in advancing information and communication technologies within the country were comprehensively reviewed.

reports that speaking at the event, Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of ANAS and Director General of the institute, shed light on the history of the scientific institution's establishment. The Academician noted that the foundation of this organization traces back to the Department of Automated Control Systems (ACS Department), which was established in 1971 under the Institute of Cybernetics of ANAS. Since 1982, the ACS Department has operated as an independent legal entity. In 1997, the Information-Telecommunication Scientific Center (ITSC) was established on the basis of the ACS Department. Subsequently, on May 21, 2002, the Institute of Information Technology was organized on the basis of the ITSC.

Institute of Information Technology announces admission to the Doctoral Studies under the PhD program

In accordance with Resolution No. 320s of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 14, 2026, approving the “Admission plans for doctoral preparation of higher education institutions, scientific institutions, and organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the year 2026,” the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan announces to doctoral studies under the PhD program.

The application period for doctoral studies under the PhD program is scheduled from May 19, 2026, to June 8, 2026. Individuals wishing to apply for doctoral studies must visit the of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan at portal.edu.az, select the service “Student Registration for Higher and Secondary Specialized Educational Institutions,” and complete the process in accordance with the instructions provided there.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev: Communication channels are the backbone of digital resilience

On the occasion of May 17 – World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, discussions were held at the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education on the resilience of communication infrastructure and internet channels.

reports that Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of ANAS and Director General of the Institute, emphasized that, by a UN General Assembly resolution, May 17 has been celebrated as World Telecommunication and Information Society Day since 2006.

The scientist noted that in 2026, this remarkable day is celebrated under the theme “Digital lifelines: Strengthening resilience in a connected world.” He stated that the primary objective of this motto is to highlight the strategic importance of digital channels and networks, including the and satellite communications, as well as submarine and terrestrial fiber-optic cables for the modern era.
