Question I was asked?
Advice for Someone Starting Their Career in Mental Health
Starting a career in mental health is both rewarding and challenging. My first advice is to stay rooted in compassion and humility. Every client’s story is unique listen deeply and never assume you have all the answers.
Second, commit to lifelong learning. Research, approaches, and cultural needs are constantly evolving. Stay curious and open to new perspectives while grounding yourself in evidence-based practices.
Third, care for your own well-being. Mental health work can be emotionally heavy, so establish boundaries, practice self-care, and seek supervision or mentorship. A healthy counselor is best equipped to help others heal.
Finally, if your faith is central, let it guide your integrity, empathy, and resilience. In this field, transformation doesn’t come from quick fixes but from walking patiently with people on their journey toward wholeness.

6-Week Journey of Hope: Walking Through Depression With Faith

You Are Not Alone
Message: Depression has a way of whispering, “You’re all by yourself.” But that is not the truth. You may feel unseen, but God has not left you. He is present in the silence, the tears, and even in the moments you can’t find the words to pray. Reach out whether to a friend, a pastor, or a counselor because connection brings light into dark spaces.
• Reflection : Who is one safe person I can reach out to this week, even if just with a text?
• Affirmation: “I am never truly alone. God is close to me, even in my darkest valley.”
• Scripture: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

Menopause Series

Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman’s menstrual cycles. It is officially diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a period, usually occurring between the ages of 45 and 55, though timing can vary.

Key Points About Menopause

Stages:

Perimenopause: The transition phase before menopause when hormone levels (estrogen and progesterone) begin to fluctuate. Symptoms often start here.

Menopause: The point when periods have stopped for a year.

Postmenopause: The years after menopause; symptoms may ease, but health risks (like osteoporosis and heart disease) can rise.

Common Symptoms:

Hot flashes and night sweats

Irregular periods

Sleep disturbances

Mood swings, anxiety, or depression

Vaginal dryness and discomfort

Weight gain and slower metabolism

Memory or concentration issues

Health Impacts:

Declining estrogen levels can affect bone density (raising the risk of osteoporosis).

Heart health risks may increase.

Some women may notice changes in skin, hair, and urinary health.

Coping & Management

Lifestyle: Healthy diet, regular exercise, good sleep habits, stress management.

Medical Options:

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for symptom relief (not suitable for everyone).

Non-hormonal medications for hot flashes or mood changes.

Natural/Supportive Approaches:

Herbal supplements (black cohosh, soy, red clover—though evidence is mixed).

Mind-body practices like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing.

Support groups and counseling.
