Moments from D'oh - Day 1 - A game played in the Marma community of Pankhaiya Powchu of Khagrachari during the Sangrai festival. It is a cherished cultural practice passed down through generations, with elders encouraging the youth to carry it forward and keep the tradition alive.

Might cover a video on it. And its practice across the hill tracts in different indigenous groups.

Watch till the end, because I saved the best for the last.

I had the chance to experience Boishu—Tripura’s Indigenous New Year—for the very first time in Khagrachari. It’s a time when the community comes together not just to celebrate the past, but to welcome the future with joy and unity.

What stood out the most was witnessing the sacred Garia Mwsamung (Garia Dance), a ritual that carries deep cultural and spiritual significance. It was more than a performance—it was a living tradition passed down through generations.

Khagrachari has a way of embracing everyone, no matter where you’re from. During Boishu, that warmth shines even brighter, as people open their hearts and homes to share their heritage.

P.S. This video primarily explores the culture of the Tripura community of Bangladesh and their practices. The research was done on an article published by Mathura Bikash's uncle and from his understanding regarding this tradition. In addition, some of the content was also added from what was available on the Wiki, and from a direct contact from the Tripura state who helped me with this.

Also, more than happy to give credit to the video owners in this content; please message me.

Last but not least, this video is sponsored by Taptap Send Bangladesh. I want to give them a huge shout-out for sponsoring my effort.

Any kind of criticism is welcome if it enriches this short documentary.

Thank you.

From the intense moments of the Garia ritual of the Tripuras.

The Garia dance ritual is a sacred tradition of the Tripura indigenous communities in both the Khagrachari district of Bangladesh and Tripura state in India. Performed around Boishu, the Tripura New Year, Garia dancers travel from village to village for seven days, upholding a commitment that extends for three years, requiring strict religious discipline.

The ritual is dedicated to Baba Garia, also known as Mwtai Kotor Shubrai, whom the Tripuras regard as a reincarnation of Lord Shiva—though this belief remains a subject of debate.
The dance movements are deeply connected to nature, mimicking frog jumps, birds in flight, and the rhythmic motions of rice harvesting, reflecting the Tripura people's close relationship with their environment.
Stay tuned for a short documentary covering Tripuras Boishu and Garia dance next month. I can't wait to share with everyone.

2024 has been an incredible journey—filled with new faces, fresh experiences, and exciting travels I can't forget. I had the chance to witness Tripura's Boishu for the first time and celebrate Marma's Alari in Khagrachari. Landing an internship opened doors to places I never thought I'd visit, shaping me in ways I never expected. Grateful for every moment, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2025 has in store!

Last year, I had the privilege of traveling to Empu Para, a remote village along the Bandarban-Thanchi road for Christmas celebration. This trip was special for many reasons—it was my first time experiencing Christmas, and I got to witness the unique way the Mro community celebrates this occasion.

Empu Para is home to a small Christian Mro population, unlike most Mro villages where Christianity is rare. My close friend Mang Young invited us to experience this celebration firsthand, and along with Ma Hla, we set off on an unforgettable journey.

I hope you enjoy this travel documentary. And yes, I wish I could dig deeper into why the village still doesn't have electricity from the electrical poles.

And apologies for the late upload :)

From my recent trip to a remote Khumi village in Ruma, Bandarban.

I'm never going to forget how much of a perspective changing and impactful trip this was for me. Learning about a community's struggle and their way of life. I'll never take these simple things for granted again after being close with them. Especially with my job allowing me to travel and document the lifestyles of these communities which I feel very fortunate enough to do.

And this is my experience at Longthang Para’s Kinitheu School that I visited with APYO. A huge shout out to them and everyone involved.
