তোমার পাশাপাশি কাউকে দাঁড়াতে দেখলে আমার হিংসা হয়না, মনে হয় শতবছর পুরনো পীপিলিকার নলকূপে আমি পড়ে গেছি, আমার শরীরের প্রতিটি অঙ্গপ্রত্যঙ্গ জুড়ে শুরু হয় অস্থিরতা ও ছটফট।

তুমি কেবল দেখো আমার চোখের পাপড়ি নড়ছেনা; দেখো চোখের পাশে ভেসে ওঠেছে রগ, ভাবো আমি ভিষণ রাগান্বিত। হিংসের আ'গুনে আমি দাউদাউ করে জ্বলছি। এইটুকুই তুমি খেয়াল করো!

অথচ তুমি কখনো বুঝতেই পারো না, তোমার পাশে কাউকে দেখলে আমার উরু কাঁপে! যন্ত্রণায় বিধ্বস্ত হয় আমার চেতনা শক্তি। দম আটকে আসে, বুকের ভিতর নিশ্বাসের বি'স্ফো'রণ ঘটে। ধীরেধীরে আমি ভেঙে যাই।

এই ব্যস্ত শহরে থমকে যাওয়া আমার এই নিথর দেহের উষ্ণ আত্মা কিসের জন্য যেন হাহাকার করে,
আমি শত চেষ্টায় তার আশা না মিটাইবার পারি সে একটু যত্নের জন্য রাক্ষুসে মন হয়ে ঘুরে বেরাচ্ছে।
সে যেন শুধু স্নেহ আর মায়ার জিঞ্জিরায় বাধা পড়তে চাইছে।
