Mayon Volcano Activity Intensifies, Thousands Evacuated in Albay

ALBAY, Philippines — Activity at Mayon Volcano has intensified, forcing more than 5,000 residents in Albay province to evacuate as ash plumes continue to blanket nearby communities.

Authorities have raised Alert Level 3 and imposed a 6-kilometre danger zone around the volcano. Officials warned of possible lava flows, landslides, and further eruptions as volcanic activity remains unstable.

Local disaster response teams are continuing evacuation efforts while closely monitoring the situation.

United Council of Rohingya Announce Leadership Transition

The United Council of Rohingya (UCR) has announced a significant milestone in its collective leadership journey, marking a formal transition in its rotational presidency system.

Under UCR’s governance structure, five leaders serve in rotation, each holding office for a six-month term. In line with this system, Mr. Sayed Ullah has successfully completed his tenure as Acting President, serving from 23 October 2025 to 23 April 2026.

A formal Responsibility Handover Ceremony was held on 23 April 2026 at the UCR office. The event was conducted transparently and witnessed by designated representatives.

During the ceremony, all presidential responsibilities, authority, and duties were officially transferred in accordance with UCR’s organizational policies.

Following the transition, Mr. Jahangir Alam has assumed the role of Acting President for the second leadership term, effective 23 April 2026. As the second member of the UCR President Panel, he takes on the position with the full confidence and support of the organization’s executive members.

UCR reaffirmed its commitment to serving the Rohingya community with unity, integrity, and strong collective leadership. The council expressed its sincere appreciation to Mr. Sayed Ullah for his dedicated service and welcomed Mr. Jahangir Alam as he begins his term.

This announcement is issued for the information of all members, partners, and stakeholders of the United Council of Rohingya.

Tragedy in Camp 13: Driver Accused of Fatally Running Over Child Twice

A horrific incident unfolded in Camp 13, Block G, near the SHED Nutrition Centre, where an IOM vehicle driver is alleged to have deliberately struck and killed a six-year-old child.

According to AFN Arakan Freedom News. - Journalist reports from the scene, the driver first hit the child with the vehicle. Witnesses state that the child initially survived the impact and did not appear to suffer major physical injuries.

However, in a shocking turn of events, the driver reportedly noticed the child lying on the ground, reversed the vehicle, and ran over the victim a second time.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the second impact. Local witnesses are holding the driver directly responsible for the child’s death, describing the act as intentional and brutal.
