**Second Anniversary of the Rohingya Tragedy**

Today marks the second anniversary of the tragic events of **4–5 August 2024**, a day of profound remembrance for the Rohingya people.

On and around **4–5 August 2024**, Rohingya civilians fleeing **Maungdaw Township** in **Rakhine State, Myanmar**, came under intensive attacks while attempting to reach safety. According to survivors and human rights organizations, hundreds of Rohingya civilians gathered along the **Naf River** in an effort to cross into Bangladesh were subjected to drone and heavy artillery attacks, resulting in devastating loss of life and widespread suffering. Human rights organizations and survivors accused the **Arakan Army (AA)** of carrying out these attacks. The AA denied responsibility, underscoring the importance of independent and impartial investigations to establish the full facts and ensure accountability under international law.

As we commemorate this solemn anniversary, we honor the memory of all those who lost their lives, stand in solidarity with the survivors and bereaved families, and reaffirm our commitment to truth, justice, accountability, and the protection of the fundamental rights and dignity of the Rohingya people. The memory of those who perished must continue to inspire sustained efforts to prevent future atrocities, uphold international human rights and humanitarian law, and ensure that those responsible for serious violations are held accountable.

We remember the victims with profound respect. We stand with the survivors. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of justice, accountability, and lasting peace.

**🇺🇸 U.S. Ambassador Visits Rohingya Refugee Camps in Cox's Bazar**

Today, the U.S. Ambassador visited Rohingya refugee communities in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, accompanied by Special Envoy Ambassador Sergio Gor.

During the visit, Ambassador Sergio Gor highlighted the scale of the humanitarian crisis, noting that Cox's Bazar is the world's largest refugee settlement, hosting more than one million Rohingya refugees.

He emphasized the United States' continued support for the Rohingya response and called on the international community to increase its humanitarian assistance.
