For a university student, a bizcomp adds value far beyond academics. It builds confidence, sharpens thinking, and creates real learning opportunities. Usually, these bizcoms are organized by university clubs by external fundings.

But recently, Skill Development Club of HSTU organized something that didn’t just affect the activities of a bizcomp, it ended up hurting the reputation of their university and damaging trust at a national level through their latest national competition Bizmaster season 2.

So here’s the context of how things unfolded, and why it matters.

A national bizcomp is supposed to run on fairness, transparency, and consistency, but when even one of these falls apart, it doesn’t just affect a few teams; it shakes the confidence of every competitor and the credibility of the whole community.

During Bizmaster ,several issues stood out not as small mistakes, but as things that genuinely harmed the standard of a national competition:

• The judges couldn’t properly view slides because of a poor-quality projector.
• Only certain teams had their slides shared as PDFs with the judges, giving them a clearer advantage.
• The entire judging panel consisted only of internal faculty,no industry experts in a national-level competition.
• One of the judges was changed midway through the second half, affecting consistency in scoring.
• Slot management rules were applied selectively despite claiming they were strict.
• A judge from Round 2 mentioned that the highest-scoring team in his panel did not qualify for semifinals, while other teams were pushed through based on preference.
• A team whose OVC was 4 seconds shorter than the required 120–150 seconds still advanced to the final and later secured 2nd place.

These points are not about who won or lost. They highlight how such mismanagement can affect students mentally and emotionally. When competitors come prepared sometimes traveling from one end of the country to another, completely unclear systems and inconsistent treatment can completely break their motivation.

Students have invested time, energy, money, and effort. And they expected a fair judgement system to showcase their skills. When the basics aren’t handled properly, competitors start to question whether their hard work even matters.

And when that trust starts to fade, the entire ecosystem suffers. Not just the participants, but also the universities, organizers, and the overall growth of business competitions in Bangladesh.

Because bizcomps should uplift students, not discourage them. They should set higher standards, not break them. And they should protect the reputation of the community, not put it at risk.

Hopefully, this serves as a reminder that fairness, clarity, and consistency are not optional, they’re the foundation of what makes a national bizcomp meaningful.

This is not written from a place of anger. It’s written out of concern.
