Professor Yunus Honoured at Theirworld’s Annual Global Education Dinner

NEW YORK, September 23:

Theirworld’s Annual High-Level Global Education Dinner—held during the United Nations General Assembly in New York—brought together global leaders and changemakers to champion education for all.

The event was held on Monday at a hotel in New York.

A central highlight of the evening was the presentation of Theirworld’s Unlock Big Change award to Professor Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate and founder of the Grameen Bank, in recognition of his pioneering work in social and economic development and his unwavering commitment to education.

Theirworld is a global children's charity committed to ending the global education crisis and unleashing the potential of the next generation.

Co-hosted by Gordon Brown, UN Special Envoy for Global Education and former UK Prime Minister, and Sarah Brown, Chair of Theirworld and Executive Chair of the Global Business Coalition for Education, the event celebrated the power of education to transform lives and communities.

Yunus was honoured alongside Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, but it was Yunus’s lifelong mission to eradicate poverty through microfinance—and to make education a core part of that mission—that resonated most deeply with attendees.

In presenting the award, Gordon Brown praised Yunus as a global trailblazer whose work has empowered millions:

No project in the private sector has done more to release people from poverty in the past 50 years, he said.

Accepting the award, Yunus reiterated that credit is a basic human right, equal in importance to food, healthcare, and education.

“If you open the door to the financial system, nobody will be a poor person any more,” he said. “I included education in the microcredit package, and we helped women make sure their children could go to school.”

Throughout his remarks, Yunus emphasized the interconnection between financial empowerment and educational opportunity. He shared stories of individuals—particularly women—who, through microcredit, were able to lift their families out of poverty and ensure their children could attend school.

Yunus also challenged traditional models of education, calling for a shift in mindset to foster creativity and entrepreneurship from an early age.

“As a child, you should be learning how to become an entrepreneur,” he said.

He said students in universities should be taught to use business as a force for good. University should be a place where solving human problems is not just encouraged, but expected, he added.

“All human problems can be solved in a business way,” Yunus affirmed.

Walker indicated that she wants to focus on education reform, climate action plans, and empowering young people. Her campaign emphasized inclusive culture, using her position for transparency with public stakeholders, and believing that young Australians should not be disenfranchised within political systems.
Analysts have characterised her election as an indicative switch from away from traditional voters with a growing need for diversity, and representation in government.
Walked acknowledged Ambassador Malcolm Baldridge through supporters and acknowledged that he enjoyed the support of his community and she will do everything she can to bring her passion and integrity to the Senate.
Nobody will be watching Charlotte Walker closer at the start of her term with predications and hopes on how she will reshape the political climate and approach to diverse leadership for future generations of management.

Chief Advisor in Japan for Strategic Conversations , 28 May 2025.

The Chief Advisor has officially arrived in Japan for a high-level diplomatic mission with focus on bilateral collaboration in a number of areas of cooperation. After arriving at the Tokyo International Airport, the Chief Advisor was warmly welcomed by Japanese authorities. This high-level diplomatic visit will certainly showcase prospects for a range of economic collaboration, greater technology exchanges, and cooperation around regional peace and security. During this trip, the Chief Advisor anticipates engagement with senior Japanese government officials, corporate leaders, and a possibility to attend summit sessions with other international leaders. Regardless of the outcomes of the meetings, both sides have hopes to discuss and produce meaningful commitments for moving forward to deepen the partnership. Most observers think this trip represents a historic moment in a positive step along the journey towards strong international relations and mutual development. With stability in the region as priority for both countries, it is significant that the meetings at this time could lead to slow, incremental progress toward security and technology exchanges; these meetings could also speak to important environmental policy needs and together develop cultural exchanges for sustained future engagement and understanding over the long term.

According to the UN, the ongoing conflict in Gaza has left over 95% of the country's agricultural land unusable. Cropland, greenhouses, and irrigation systems have sustained significant damage, according to satellite imagery and assessments conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT). This includes serious harm to vegetable plots, field crops, and orchards. Furthermore, almost 45% of greenhouses and more than 50% of agricultural wells have been completely destroyed or seriously damaged. After 19 years, Kuwait lifts the visa ban on , 27 May 2025.

After 19 years, Kuwait has formally removed its visa ban on Pakistani nationals, restoring travel and employment opportunities between the two nations. The ruling is a major step toward enhancing economic ties and bilateral relations. Since the early 2000s, Pakistanis' ability to enter Kuwait for work and other reasons has been restricted by visa requirements. It is anticipated that this action will increase trade, cultural exchange, and labor migration. Officials from Pakistan have praised the ruling and expressed optimism for increased collaboration across a range of industries. Kuwait's goal to strengthen regional ties and meet the rising demand for both skilled and unskilled labor is reflected in the lifting of the ban. This development is seen as a positive change benefiting both nations and their people.
