Fahmida Azim, a painter and decorator of Bangladeshi origin, has won the Pulitzer Prize. She won the award, considered the most prestigious award in journalism and publishing, for decorating an illustrated report titled "How I Escaped a Chinese Interment Camp" published by the Insider website.
Azim is the first US citizen of Bangladeshi origin to win the Pulitzer Prize. Her illustrations have previously appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Scientific American, The Intercept, Entertainment Weekly. Fahmida is a graduate of Communication Arts and currently works as a graphic designer in a company in Seattle, Washington State.
The Pulitzer Prize has been awarded since 1917. It was established by American newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer in accordance with his will and bequests. Awards are given in 15 categories for journalism, writing and photography and seven categories for books, drama and music.
