The RMS Queen Mary, now docked in Long Beach, California, is widely regarded as one of the most haunted places in the world. Originally a luxury ocean liner launched in 1936, it served as a troopship during World War II and was permanently retired in 1967. Over its history, at least 49 deaths have been documented aboard, with some estimates suggesting up to 150 spirits may linger.
Notable hauntings include the First-Class Swimming Pool, where wet footprints and the laughter of a girl named Jackie, believed to have drowned in the 1940s, are often reported. Room B340 is infamous for paranormal activity, with guests experiencing covers being pulled off, faucets turning on, and shadowy figures since a passenger’s death there in 1948. Other spirits include a crewman crushed by a watertight door in 1966, still seen near the engine room, and a "lady in white" spotted in the first-class areas. The ship’s wartime tragedies, including a collision with HMS Curacoa that killed over 300, add to its eerie reputation. Today, it offers haunted tours and paranormal investigations, drawing enthusiasts to explore its ghostly lore.
