Bangladesh’s leading nephrologist, Professor Dr. Kamrul Islam, Founder of the Center for Kidney Diseases and Urology Hospital, will complete his 1,800th free kidney transplant this Friday.
The Independence Award-winning doctor said Bangladesh performs only about 365 transplants annually against a need of 10,000, citing a shortage of specialists, high costs, and low awareness of organ donation. With 38 million kidney patients nationwide, Dr. Islam’s lifelong mission to offer free treatment has made him a symbol of compassion and excellence in healthcare.

Skywatchers across Bangladesh are in for a celestial treat as the November full moon, known as the Beaver Moon, reaches peak brightness at 6:19 PM Bangladesh time on November 5. This marks the last supermoon of 2025, appearing noticeably larger and brighter as it draws closer to Earth.
The glowing orb will grace the eastern skies on the evenings of November 4 and 5, accompanied by a dazzling backdrop that includes the Pleiades and Hyades star clusters, the Orion constellation, and the planet Jupiter, according to NASA.
Traditionally called the “Beaver Moon” in Native American and European folklore, the name refers to the time of year when beavers prepared for winter, building their dams before the onset of freezing temperatures.
Astronomy enthusiasts are encouraged to look up and enjoy this spectacular farewell to 2025’s series of supermoons.

In Chattogram’s Mirsarai, a small patch of land has turned into a dense forest in just three years, something that usually takes a century to grow. Built on only 4,400 square feet, the forest now hosts around 120 species of trees and plants, all created using the Japanese Miyawaki method, which promotes rapid and natural forest growth. The initiative, developed through private effort, is being hailed as Bangladesh’s first successful experiment with the Miyawaki Forest model.
