Amnesty strongly condemns Israel’s deliberate killing of journalists in an air strike on a media tent in occupied Gaza City.

Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues have been the eyes and voices of Gaza. Starved and exhausted, they continued to bravely report from the frontlines, despite death threats and immense grief.

No conflict in modern history has seen a higher number of journalists killed than Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

There must be an independent and impartial investigation into the killings of Palestinian journalists, with justice and full reparation for their families. States must urgently act to bring an end to Israel’s genocide now.

Mzia Amaghlobeli, a prominent journalist was arrested on 11 January 2025 during peaceful protests against the policies of the ruling Georgian dream party.

After being released from her first arrest, Mzia slapped the police chief in protest against ongoing crackdowns on peaceful protesters. After her second arrest, Mzia was verbally and physically assaulted, spat on and denied medical help for her injuries.

Despite police witnesses admitting her ill-treatment in court, the investigation into the allegations has been manifestly ineffective, and no alleged perpetrator has been held accountable.

Mzia''s story has become emblematic of the Georgian authorities’ brutal crackdown on independent media, protest and all dissent.

Sign the petition to demand Georgian authorities ensure justice for Mzia and other protesters.

This outcome for Shahidul Alam was long overdue. His case was emblematic of a broader trend which has seen Bangladeshi authorities weaponize legislation.
