Its a curse to own a car right now in Bangladesh!

Did you know that Advance Income Tax (AIT) on private cars in Bangladesh was introduced only in FY 2009–10?

What would the original 2009 AIT be worth today (2026) if it had only kept pace with inflation?

Up to 1,500cc
2009: Tk 3,000
2026 inflation-adjusted: ~Tk 9,500

1,501–2,000cc
2009: Tk 4,000
2026 inflation-adjusted: ~Tk 12,700

Above 2,000cc
2009: Tk 7,000
2026 inflation-adjusted: ~Tk 22,200

Think about that for a moment.

If the original 2009 AIT rates had simply increased in line with general inflation, Tk 3,000 would be worth roughly Tk 9,500 today.

Tk 7,000 would be worth roughly Tk 22,200.
