If you're planning to buy a car, this might help!
Every year, Bangladesh’s national budget announced in early June has a significant impact on the country’s car market. Whether you’re looking to buy a brand-new car, a reconditioned Japanese import, or even an EV, here’s why making your purchase before the budget announcement could save you a lot of money and hassle.
What happens during budget season?
The government typically revises taxes, duties, and policies around car imports and vehicle ownership. These changes are not always favorable to buyers. In fact, they usually mean:
- Increased import duties
- Revised VAT or supplementary duties
- Changes in policies for hybrids or EVs
- More restrictions on reconditioned car imports
Once the budget is announced:
- Prices can shoot up overnight by anywhere from ৳2–7+ lakhs, depending on the model and engine capacity. (Even in the used car market)
- Dealers may increase prices immediately, even on units already in stock.
- Importers delay clearing cars at ports, waiting to understand new rules, creating artificial shortages and delays.
Why Now is the Best Time to Buy?
- Existing stock is still priced based on current duty structures.
- Dealers are looking to clear inventory before budget shocks.
- You can lock in prices, avoiding post-budget hikes.
- There's more negotiation room, as both buyers and sellers are uncertain about what’s coming.
If you're seriously considering a car purchase, don't wait till June. The budget announcement always brings uncertainty, price hikes, and potential delays. If you're planning to buy a car before the budget but not sure where to start, feel free to reach out.
