ফেব্রুয়ারির প্রথমার্ধে জাতীয় নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে বলে জানিয়েছেন প্রধান নির্বাচন কমিশনার (সিইসি) এ এম এম নাসির উদ্দিন।

শনিবার বিকালে তিনি এ তথ্য জানান।

এরআগে সকালে রংপুর বিভাগের নির্বাচন কর্মকর্তাদের সঙ্গে মতবিনিময় সভায় প্রধান নির্বাচন কমিশনার বলেন, বিগত নির্বাচন প্রক্রিয়ায় জড়িতদের বাদ দিয়ে নতুন লোক নেওয়া হবে। ভোটে আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতির যে কোনো চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবিলায় নির্বাচন কমিশন প্রস্তুত আছে।

সিইসি বলেন, নির্বাচন ঘনিয়ে আসার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতির আরও উন্নতি হবে। এছাড়া বিগত সময়ে যারা নির্বাচন প্রক্রিয়ার সঙ্গে জড়িত ছিলেন, তাদের যথা সম্ভব বাদ দিয়ে নতুন লোক নির্বাচন প্রক্রিয়ায় যোগ করা হবে। জাতির কাছে দেওয়া প্রধান উপদেষ্টার সুষ্ঠু নির্বাচনের প্রতিশ্রুতি রক্ষা করতেই কাজ করছে ইসি।
