The distinguished Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam passed away at the age of 74 at a hospital in the capital at around 5:15 PM today. The renowned writer and beloved member of our academic community had been fighting for his life due to cardiac arrest, which later led to pneumonia as well.

His service for the ULAB community will be unmatched as he served the ULAB's Department of English & Humanities with dignity and pride, making some significant contributions to Bangladeshi literary criticism and creative writing.

His body will be taken to the Shaheed Minar tomorrow on the 11th of October at around 11 AM, for his friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to pay their last respects. Later, he will be buried in the Budhhijibi Graveyard in Mirpur.

During this time of grief, ULAB remembers his work, legacy, and contributions to the country, and honors his life. Prayers & thoughts for the great man. May he rest well.

NOTE: ULAB will provide transportation service to facilitate those who wish to pay their last respect to Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam. Two buses will leave the Permanent Campus at 10 AM sharp, followed by a stop at Nondonkanon, Dhanmondi 7/A at 10:15 AM (in front of KFC), and then leave for Shaheed Minar shortly from there. The buses will be available as well for the safe and smooth return of the attendees from the Shaheed Minar and the Dhaka University Central Mosque after all the formalities.

Based on the true story of Fahrije Hoti, Hive portrays a woman from a small Kosovar village whose husband has been missing since the war. To support her family and reclaim her independence, she begins a small business selling ajvar, a traditional pepper spread. Despite facing a patriarchal community and harsh societal judgment, Fahrije’s resilience shines as a powerful symbol of post-war female empowerment and economic survival. The film has received international acclaim, winning multiple awards at the Sundance Film Festival, including the Grand Jury Prize.

𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 was more than a novelist. Her vision had given new life to vampires, witches, and timeless Gothic tales. Through her vision and words, she built worlds that continue to inspire and enchant readers.

Her stories always remind the readers that literature is not about characters and plots. It is more about exploring humanity, mystery, desire, and faith that lie beyond. At one point she wrote “𝘌𝘷𝘪𝘭 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵.” Her writings turned macabre into beauty and darkness into art.

𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗕 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆: 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲.

Foundation Day at 𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗕 isn’t just a date on the calendar — it’s a celebration of everything that makes this campus ULAB. From the very first moment at the punch machine, 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 learn resilience — forgetting IDs, getting fines, and performing a dramatic one-person soap opera at the entrance before even making it to 8 a.m. classes with coffee in hand and assignments in tow.

𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 hover nearby, part superheroes, part unpaid therapists, part GPS, making sure freshers don’t get lost, panic, or accidentally join the wrong class. 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 inspire, challenge, and occasionally assign group projects that test patience, teamwork, and sanity. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 quietly keep the campus running while 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 look on, smiling at the chaos they apparently planned.

The campus truly comes alive during 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗗𝗮𝘆, where we all pretend to be CEOs-in-training while secretly Googling “how to adult.” 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗗𝗮𝘆 explodes into music, talent, laughter, and food stalls that vanish faster than anyone can grab a bite. 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 honors creativity, hard work, and sometimes sheer luck — with 𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙢𝙣𝙞 cheering, subtly reminding us that one day we’ll actually miss this caffeinated madness.

Even the everyday corners of campus — 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽, 𝗖𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮-𝗰𝘂𝗺-𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹, and yes, the 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗸𝗮𝗻 outside — play their roles in shaping ULAB’s unique rhythm. Chai breaks turn into life lessons, small victories feel epic, and the chaos somehow becomes part of the magic. And of course, the 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 of ULAB — silently staring, judging, and supervising campus life as if they own the place — adding their own brand of calm chaos.

𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 isn’t just a date; it’s a celebration of every chaotic, caffeinated, punch-machine-surviving, ID-forgetting, peer-mentor-saving, playground-running, common-room-hanging, printing-shop-rescuing, club-crazy, apprenticeship-hustling, award-winning, meme-worthy, dog-approved, utterly unforgettable moment that makes ULAB not just a university — but home.

Some people arrive. Some people arrive and quietly change everything around them. This summer term, we celebrate 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗶𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵, whose energy in Event Volunteering lifted every initiative, and 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶, whose creativity in Graphics turned ideas into stories that linger.

𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗶𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵 (𝘚𝘶𝘣-𝘌𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳 / 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘢 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯) and 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦) remind us that passion and dedication don’t just get things done—they inspire, connect, and leave a mark. The summer term shone brighter because of them.

Imagine a time when society seemed impossible to challenge, where traditions controlled lives and voices were silenced. Into this world was born 𝗜𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝘆𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗿 — a boy who would grow to be called the ‘𝙊𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙆𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚.’

From a young age, he believed that learning should belong to everyone, not just the privileged few. He transformed Bengali prose, made education accessible, and showed that knowledge could be a tool to break the chains of ignorance.

But Vidyasagar didn’t stop at classrooms and books. In a society that resisted change, he stood up for widows denied the right to remarry, for children trapped in cruel customs, and for anyone oppressed by rigid traditions. He faced petitions, ridicule, and fierce opposition — yet he never wavered. His courage and compassion reshaped society, proving that real change begins with empathy and action.

Today, his impact is still alive. In university campuses, in debates, in youth-led movements, and in students questioning old norms, Vidyasagar's legacy remains with us. With each step towards equality, each battle for justice, and each effort at integrating education, his impact is seen.

On this day, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗶𝗮𝗻 celebrates Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar — a scholar, a reformer, a humanist — whose mission and vision still motivate students to think, question, and act.

The evening draped over campus like a lazy shadow. Semester break was done. Some students returned from their hometowns, clutching suitcases and leftover comforts. Others never left, already pacing dim corridors, hearts racing as CGPAs and deadlines crept like ghosts.

Add/drop week prowls like a trickster—one wrong click and your semester schedule turns into a nightmare. Late registration lurks nearby, fangs out, ready to drain wallets faster than a vampire at midnight.

Group projects lie in wait like traps, often missing that one member who mysteriously vanished. Deadlines hide in Google Classroom—patient, relentless, and ever so smug. The cafeteria? A hall of whispers, where memes slither like shadows and meals seem to watch you back.

As winter nears, 8 AM classes turn into mini horror sagas—blankets clinging, alarms screaming, quizzes whispering, and deadlines stalking us like ghosts. Finals and apprenticeships lurk like boss-level monsters, and suddenly we’re academic spirits trapped in a haunted semester.
