A large group of people allegedly vandalised and looted BrownFish Studio, owned by content creator Salman Muqtadir, at the New Gini Properties housing project near ECB Chattar in Dhaka on September 26. The incident reportedly took place at around 10:30pm, with witnesses estimating that more than 100 people were involved.
According to Salman Muqtadir, the attackers damaged studio equipment, furniture and CCTV cameras and looted production materials. Two workers present at the studio reportedly hid inside a bathroom and were later threatened with weapons before having their phones and wallets taken. Salman said the studio itself was not necessarily the intended target and that it may have been caught in a wider dispute involving the housing project.
Salman alleged that the property owner had faced extortion demands and suggested that the attack may have been connected to those demands. He also alleged involvement by individuals affiliated with the BNP. These claims have not been independently established.
Police, however, have described the incident differently, saying it arose from a land and property dispute and that BrownFish Studio was not the intended target. Several people have reportedly been detained in connection with the incident, with police saying legal proceedings are underway.
The incident has sparked wider discussion over law and order, political influence and the protection of private property in Dhaka.
