Bangladesh’s proposed National Human Rights Commission Act 2026 has drawn discussion over the commission’s independence, powers and accountability.

The Cabinet gave final approval to the draft in August 2026. The proposal includes a National Preventive Mechanism to help prevent custodial torture, deaths and enforced disappearances, as well as powers to issue interim orders.
