Continuous monsoon rain has greatly improved the air quality in Dhaka over the past few days. The rainfall washed away dust and harmful pollutants, reducing the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) to 66, which falls under the "moderate" category. At around 9:40 am, Dhaka ranked 93rd among the world's most polluted cities.

Air quality in Dhaka usually gets better during the monsoon because rain helps remove pollution from the air. However, pollution levels increase during the dry winter season. Bangladesh measures its AQI using several major air pollutants, including PM2.5, PM10, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, and ozone.
