BUPians Stand in Solidarity After Gang R**e of a fellow University Student in Savar.

Amidst growing national outrage over the recent gang r**e of a BUPian female student in Savar, Students of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) & other universities have announced their solidarity with the victim and called for swift justice against the perpetrators.

The incident took place on the night of October 14, when the victim was returning home after a tuition session. She was intercepted by a group of local men — identified as Sohel Rozario (37), Tilok Rozario (40), and Mithu Biswas (35) — who forcibly took her to a secluded area in Komlapur, Savar, and brutally assaulted her.

According to reports, the accused are known local criminals, allegedly involved in drug dealing and other illicit activities. They are currently on the run, while the victim’s family is reportedly facing intimidation from associates of the accused. A case has already been filed at the Savar Model Police Station (Case No. 59), and a manhunt is underway.

The incident has sparked widespread protests on social media and among student communities nationwide. Student leaders, rights activists, and youth organizations have strongly condemned the attack, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the culprits.

Within BUP, students have expressed shock, anger, and frustration over the recurring violence against women and the lack of safety for female students. Several clubs have issued official statements of solidarity, demanding strict legal action and urgent government intervention.

“We will not stay silent. This is not just about one victim- this is about justice, safety, and dignity for every woman,” said one student leader on a Human Protest at Mirpur-12.

Till now, a majority of departments & active clubs at BUP have expressed their official stance, urging students nationwide to unite against r**e culture, gender-based violence, and state inaction.

The assault has once again highlighted the fragile state of women’s security in Bangladesh and reignited public pressure on law enforcement and the justice system to ensure swift and transparent trials in r**e cases.

One point, One claim.
Genocide has been committed on common people including students and children under the current government and the current government has failed to give any clear answer and fair trial to such killings. Moreover, the government has tried to suppress the logical movement of the students by using the law and order forces, security forces and military forces and using lethal weapons and the innocent students have been arrested, disappeared and their personal mobile phones have been searched and their homes have been harassed. In this situation, a large number of people including the teachers and students of Bangladesh feel that an impartial fair trial and investigation is not possible under this government.
In view of this, the students of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) express solidarity with the central coordinating committee of the 'anti-discrimination student movement' and announce a one-point demand for the resignation of the current dictatorial government. At the same time, they demanded the formation of a neutral inclusive national government under the leadership of a person acceptable to all.

BUP 7th June,2024- BUP Student's Sudden Death; Students blames Vista, one of the two cafeteria for BUP Students.

Amongst the busiest last weeks of this semester & the 16th raising day of BUP, the sad demise of a BUP MBA student, Nirov Ahmed Asad on 3rd June 2024 has grabbed everyone's attention & condolences. It was just like any other regular day, untill he felt sick right after returnig home from BUP eating twice at Vista. Later on, after suffering from stomach-ache due to food poisoning the whole night , he was admitted into the Islami Bank Hospital Mugda on the very next day. After his admission at the hospital he was treated with three shots of an injection by the attending nurse who has been reported as an amateur.

Though the cause of his death has yet not been clearly established, which can either be the unhygienic foods of Vista or mistreatment on behalf of I.B Hospital's staff, students immediately started blaming Vista, as they were already accused numerous time by multiple students who discovered insect parts, hairs, grease stains in Vista’s foods & utensils. Students have also showed their concern about the constant flight of flies fouling on and landing on uncovered foods in the cafeteria which is a big health risk since foods can easily be contaminated, leading to outbreak of diseases.

The frustrating part in this whole matter is, even with such outrageous complaints rising over time, it should be evident that Vista canteen has not properly applied any pest control measures, proper storage of food as well as proper hygiene measures. Since the incident has brought limelight on justice, BUP administration has come under judgement & criticism for what people think is negligence and cover up. There is still no official comment from BUP authority on this incident.

Netigens recommended BUP should act immediately and carry out a range of measures & inspection procedures, which will include the daily sanitation control and training of the staff in order not to let such catastrophes happen again. It is also important for the administration to be more communicative and clear regarding their position with the student community during this time of tension.

Nonetheless, what has remained as a heart-rending tragedy is a wake up call for all the BUP students to always remain conscious about the food & take immediate actions or complaints to the authority if any doubt arises.

We, the BUP Times community is deeply mourned in your departure Nirov Ahmed Asad. RIP.
