BUPians Stand in Solidarity After Gang R**e of a fellow University Student in Savar.
Amidst growing national outrage over the recent gang r**e of a BUPian female student in Savar, Students of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) & other universities have announced their solidarity with the victim and called for swift justice against the perpetrators.
The incident took place on the night of October 14, when the victim was returning home after a tuition session. She was intercepted by a group of local men — identified as Sohel Rozario (37), Tilok Rozario (40), and Mithu Biswas (35) — who forcibly took her to a secluded area in Komlapur, Savar, and brutally assaulted her.
According to reports, the accused are known local criminals, allegedly involved in drug dealing and other illicit activities. They are currently on the run, while the victim’s family is reportedly facing intimidation from associates of the accused. A case has already been filed at the Savar Model Police Station (Case No. 59), and a manhunt is underway.
The incident has sparked widespread protests on social media and among student communities nationwide. Student leaders, rights activists, and youth organizations have strongly condemned the attack, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the culprits.
Within BUP, students have expressed shock, anger, and frustration over the recurring violence against women and the lack of safety for female students. Several clubs have issued official statements of solidarity, demanding strict legal action and urgent government intervention.
“We will not stay silent. This is not just about one victim- this is about justice, safety, and dignity for every woman,” said one student leader on a Human Protest at Mirpur-12.
Till now, a majority of departments & active clubs at BUP have expressed their official stance, urging students nationwide to unite against r**e culture, gender-based violence, and state inaction.
The assault has once again highlighted the fragile state of women’s security in Bangladesh and reignited public pressure on law enforcement and the justice system to ensure swift and transparent trials in r**e cases.
