THROWBACK : This was the photo submitted to the Miss Universe Organization by Miss Philippines Gloria Aspillera Diaz for the press folder at the 1969 Miss Universe beauty pageant in Miami Beach, Florida. The late 1960s was known as the flower power era characterized by the hippie counterculture and anti-war movement. It symbolized a form of passive resistance and nonviolence, advocating for peace, love, and universal harmony as opposed to aggression and divisiveness. Truly a universal zeitgeist and Gloria was in the thick of things as the ultimate representation of it.
Eventually she emerged as the winner and making her the first Filipina Miss Universe winner of 1969.
