Following the global success of their Arirang era, BTS announced that they will not submit their music for consideration at the 2027 GRAMMY
Awards after the Recording Academy introduced a new Asian-focused category. Instead of competing in the newly created category, the group stated, "I hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language," reaffirming their belief that music should be judged by its artistry rather than its language or region of origin. The decision has sparked widespread discussion across the music industry, with many praising BTS for taking a stand on equal recognition for artists worldwide, while others view the new category as an opportunity to celebrate Asian music. Having already made history with multiple GRAMMY nominations and groundbreaking performances, BTS's decision during the record-breaking Arirang era further reinforces their long-standing message that music transcends borders, cultures and languages, and should unite people on a truly global stage.
