মরহুমা বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার জন্য তিন দিনের রাষ্ট্রীয় শোক সমাপ্ত হয়েছে। এই সময় দেশজুড়ে এবং বিদেশে অবস্থানরত শুভানুধ্যায়ীদের কাছ থেকে প্রাপ্ত ভালোবাসা, সমবেদনা ও দোয়া আমাদের পরিবারকে গভীরভাবে নাড়া দিয়েছে। এই তিন দিনে আমরা আরও উপলব্ধি করেছি, আমার মা ভিন্ন-ভিন্ন মানুষের কাছে ভিন্ন-ভিন্ন তাৎপর্য বহন করতেন; অনেক ক্ষেত্রে তা ছিল এতটাই অর্থবহ, যা হয়তো আমরা নিজেরাও পুরোপুরি উপলব্ধি করতে পারিনি।
অনেকের কাছে তিনি ছিলেন আপোষহীনতার প্রতীক; নিজের বিশ্বাসের পক্ষে সাহসের সঙ্গে দাঁড়ানোর অটল প্রেরণা। রাজনীতির গণ্ডি ছাড়িয়ে এই প্রেরণা বহু দূর পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত হয়েছে; পরিচয়, আদর্শ ও অবস্থানের ঊর্ধ্বে উঠে অগণিত মানুষকে স্পর্শ করেছে।
আমরা অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকার, অধ্যাপক মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস এবং তাঁর উপদেষ্টা পরিষদের প্রতি চিরকৃতজ্ঞ। তাঁদের নেতৃত্ব ও দ্রুত সমন্বয়ের কারণেই স্বল্প সময়ের মধ্যে এই বিরল ও সম্মানজনক অন্তিম আয়োজন সম্পন্ন করা সম্ভব হয়েছে।
আন্তর্জাতিক পরিমণ্ডলেও আমাদের প্রতিবেশী ও বন্ধু রাষ্ট্রসমূহ, দেশ-বিদেশের নেতৃবৃন্দ, কূটনীতিকবৃন্দ এবং বিশ্বের নানা প্রান্তের অংশীদারদের প্রতি আন্তরিক ধন্যবাদ জানাই। বিভিন্ন দেশের সরকারপ্রধানদের সহমর্মিতা ও সংহতি আমাদের হৃদয়কে গভীরভাবে আলোড়িত করেছে। জানাজায় বিভিন্ন দেশের সম্মানিত ব্যক্তিদের উপস্থিতি, সমবেদনার চিঠি ও বার্তা, শোক বইয়ে লেখা কথা, সামাজিক মাধ্যমে অগণিত অনুভূতির প্রকাশ, বাংলাদেশে অবস্থিত মিশন ও বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের আনুষ্ঠানিক বিবৃতি — এই প্রতিটি সম্মাননাই ছিল অভূতপূর্ব।
আমি আবারও কৃতজ্ঞতা জানাই সশস্ত্র বাহিনী, আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনী এবং প্রশাসন ও বিভিন্ন মন্ত্রণালয়ের সঙ্গে যুক্ত প্রতিটি সদস্যকে। মায়ের শেষ বিদায়ে আপনাদের দায়িত্ববোধ ও শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি জিয়া পরিবারকে গভীরভাবে স্পর্শ করেছে।
এই শোকের দিনগুলো যেন মর্যাদা ও সম্মানের সঙ্গে সম্পন্ন হয়, সে জন্য যাঁরা ভূমিকা রেখেছেন, তাঁদের সবার প্রতিই আমরা কৃতজ্ঞ। বিশেষভাবে ধন্যবাদ জানাতে চাই প্রেসিডেন্ট গার্ড রেজিমেন্টকে। তাঁদের সম্মানসূচক গার্ড অব অনার ও শেষ সালাম আমার মায়ের জীবন ও অবদানের প্রতি সর্বোচ্চ শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করেছে। তাঁকে সমাধিতে পৌঁছে দিয়ে তাঁরা জাতির শ্রদ্ধা ও ভালোবাসার প্রতিফলন ঘটিয়েছেন এবং অন্তিম যাত্রাকে প্রাপ্য সম্মানে আলোকিত করেছেন।
এ কথাও স্মরণ করিয়ে দিতে চাই যে, আরও অনেক মানুষ, যাঁদের নাম বা ভূমিকা হয়তো আলাদাভাবে উল্লেখ করা সম্ভব হয়নি, তাঁরা নীরবে ও নির্মোহভাবে এই পুরো প্রক্রিয়াকে সুচারুভাবে সম্পন্ন করতে সহায়তা করেছেন। পর্দার আড়ালে বা জনসম্মুখের বাইরে থেকে দায়িত্ব পালনকারী সকলের প্রতি রইল আমাদের আন্তরিক কৃতজ্ঞতা। আলহামদুলিল্লাহ, আপনাদের প্রচেষ্টাতেই আমাদের পরিবার ও জাতি মর্যাদার সঙ্গে মায়ের স্মৃতিকে ধারণ করতে পেরেছে।
সবশেষে, বাংলাদেশের জনগণের প্রতি আমার গভীর অভিবাদন। দেশের প্রতিটি প্রান্ত থেকে এত মানুষের সমবেত হয়ে দেশনেত্রীর প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানানোর দৃশ্য আমাদের পরিবার কখনোই ভুলবে না। এই শক্তিশালী ও ঐক্যবদ্ধ উপস্থিতি গণমানুষের সহমর্মিতা ও মানবিক আবেগেরই প্রতিফলন।
আমাদের পরিবার এবং বাংলাদেশ জাতীয়তাবাদী দল-বিএনপির পক্ষ থেকে, শোক ও স্মরণের এই সময়ে যাঁরা আমাদের পাশে ছিলেন, তাঁদের সবাইকে আবারও আন্তরিক ধন্যবাদ। আপনাদের ভালোবাসা ও সংহতি আমাদের সান্ত্বনা ও শক্তি জুগিয়েছে, আর আমরা তা কৃতজ্ঞতার সঙ্গে আগামীর বাংলাদেশে বয়ে নিয়ে চলব, ইনশাআল্লাহ।
As the three-day national mourning period for Begum Khaleda Zia comes to a close, our family has been deeply moved by the continued outpouring of condolences and prayers from across the country and from friends abroad. These three days have shown us the many ways in which my mother meant something different to different people, often in ways we may not have fully known or seen.
To many she came to symbolise the courage to stand up for what one truly believes in and remain steadfast in conviction, despite the hardship. That lesson resonates far beyond politics, touching people wherever they are and whoever they may be.
We are eternally thankful to the interim government, and to Professor Muhammad Yunus and his Cabinet, whose leadership and swift coordination made it possible to arrange such an honourific farewell in such a short time.
To the international community, our neighbours, friends, diplomats, and partners around the world, you have warmed our hearts with your compassion and solidarity. The presence of dignitaries at the funeral, the letters and messages of condolence, the words written in condolence books, the countless expressions shared through social media, and official statements by leaders, local missions in Bangladesh, and organisations across the country has been incredible to see.
Once again, we are deeply grateful to all the servicemen and women involved, across the armed forces and law-enforcement agencies, across coordinating administrations and ministries. My family and I were truly touched by your sense of duty and care during my mother’s final farewell.
We remain grateful to all who helped ensure these days of mourning were conducted with dignity and care. I wish to offer special thanks to the President Guard Regiment, whose solemn guard of honour and final salute paid the highest tribute to my mother’s life and service. By escorting Begum Khaleda Zia with such respect to her final resting place, you embodied the nation’s reverence and ensured that her last journey was marked with the honour it deserved.
I am also mindful that many others, whose names or roles may not have been mentioned, contributed in countless ways to ensuring the day unfolded seamlessly. To all who served behind the scenes or beyond public view, please accept my heartfelt thanks. Your efforts made it possible, Alhamdulillah, for our family and for the nation to honour her memory with dignity.
And finally, to the people of Bangladesh. To see so many of you, from every corner of the nation, gather in reverence for my mother was something our family could never have anticipated. It was a powerful and unifying moment that reflected the compassion and shared humanity of our people.
