The first Bangladeshi private university to bar a teacher from the university for speaking out against homosexuality
Asif Mahtab Utsha, a distinguished teacher of BRAC University and a philosopher of Islamic tradition, spoke against homosexuality at the National Teachers' Seminar. At the same time, he protested by tearing out two pages of a seventh grade book because of the presence of homosexual stories. Although his protest received widespread support from the public, BRAC University was displeased. As a result, he was not allowed to come to the university from BRAC. After that, massive protests started online. The consensus was, "BRAC is a gay university. Boycott BRAC." Activists downgraded everything they could, including BRAC's page, in the hope that BRAC would fall behind in the QS Rankings and move away from their homophobic attitudes.
