On this day in 1998, President Bill Clinton became the second president in U.S. history to be impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives. One of the charges for his impeachment was perjury and the other was obstruction of justice. He was acquitted of both by the Senate in February of 1999.

You all have seen a lot of the videos that we've posted from the trips that we've taken with The Rifle to the WWII battlefields of Europe with the veterans who fought there. I was unable to go on the most recent trip to Belgium, but fortunately, my buddy Sander from Sandervk History was there to capture some pretty special moments. I think that you'll really enjoy the video linked below.

Dale Earl Noble was a paratrooper of the 101st Airborne who jumped into Holland during Operation Market Garden in 1944. More than 75 years later, he returned...

With a channel that is packed full of history videos, I try to make things easier for people to find the topics that they are interested in my organizing the content into playlists. I just realized that I never created a playlist for The Battle of the Bulge, which is kind of crazy because I have a lot of content on the channel connected to that battle. Anyway, that's been fixed. You can check it out via the link below and maybe catch a few episodes that you missed the first time around.

Library of Congress Photo of Day

Many people probably known Ansel Adams for his landscape and nature photography. What some may not know is that he also did some photography of the Japanese relocation center at Manzanar during WWII. This image shows a group of high school students at recess.

I haven't been to Manzanar yet but have been to a few other Japanese-American internment camps on the YouTube channel. Here's a link to my visit to Heart Mountain that I think you'll take interest in: https://youtu.be/uDU9EEk6Ig4?si=dNrLHsi1_amSSCuF

Throwback Thursday!

With late December being the anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, I thought that it'd be good to look back at Episode 162 of American Artifact where we went into the woods of the Bastogne perimeter with a few artifacts of Easy Company, 506th PIR.

As an aside, The Gettysburg Museum Of History is the home of the largest collection of Easy Company artifacts. One of the highlights of the new museum expansion is going to be an exhibit showcasing these artifacts and funneling people who are fans of Band of Brothers into other areas of history.

If you want to join us in our efforts to bring history to the masses, you can donate to the museum expansion here: https://www.gettysburgmuseumofhistory.com/foundation/

On this day in 1620, English pilgrims who had crossed the Atlantic Ocean aboard the Mayflower in search of religious freedom anchored their ship in Plymouth Harbor and came ashore to establish their new settlement, Plymouth Colony.

Earlier today, I posted about a friendly interaction that we had with the police while in Nijmegen (seriously, they were good people). After scanning through the comments, there are a few things that I want to make clear that weren't clear in the video.

1.) The banner that we were featuring was heavily signed and modified by the 82nd Airborne veteran who brought it home. Were it not for that, there was no way that we would have brought it with us. Even though thousands of soldiers brought home plain flags and banners as souvenirs, bringing something like that back to a WWII battlefield in Europe would be unwise.

2.) This was filmed exceptionally early in the morning before the public was out so that we didn't raise any eyebrows or unintentionally offend anyone. We assume that it was an individual on a river barge who called the police...and the local port authority who also showed up with a few questions just as we were wrapping up our history conversation with the police.

3.) For those who evacuated their bowels thinking that we offended the entire European continent, again, I can assure you that everything was fine. We had two European historians with us off camera. The person who called it in was likely just exercising caution, which we completely understand. The police found the flag to be an exceptionally interesting piece that signified Allied victory of the Axis Powers. And before posting the video, I sent it to a number of other European historians (some from the Netherlands) to make sure that no lines were crossed. So there you go.

Hope that you all found the episode interesting and have been enjoying this Market Garden series!

A quick word about the Polish in Operation Market Garden from the man himself, Joel Stoppels. Joel is a well respected guide and has a book coming out that is going to be covering the last airborne drop of WWII that I’m really looking forward to talking with him about on the channel at some point.

By the way, this was filmed at the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery.

This YouTube channel has taken me to some interesting places.
I can remember stepping foot onto Omaha Beach for the first time.
I can remember walking the path of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg.
I will always remember rounding the corner in Hiroshima and seeing the Atomic Dome for the first time.

I will also always remember the first time that someone called the police on me in Nijmegen.
